When 52 Sisters die, accidentally poisoned by the cook, Sister Julia, Child of God, the remaining nuns of The Little Sisters of Hoboken put on an outrageous variety show to raise money for the funerals. Stark reprises his favorite role of Tevye, the milkman, who is the center of this touching story set in the tiny village of Anatevka. Tevye does his best to protect his five daughters and instill them with traditional values, even in the face of changing times and social principles. Signature Theatre presents Elmer Gantry, a musical version of Sinclair Lewis' best-selling novel, directed by Signature's Artistic Director Eric Schaeffer (Broadway's Follies, Million Dollar Quartet). Schaeffer collaborated on the last production of Elmer Gantry at Marriott's Lincolnshire Theatre in Chicago with authors John Bishop (book), Mel Marvin (music) and Bob Satuloff (lyrics) in 1998; the show has not been produced since then. This will be the 5th production in the show's history. Running in the MAX Theatre today, October 7 - November 9, Signature's production will include several brand new songs by Mel Marvin and Bob Satuloff and a reimagined script that John Bishop worked on until his death in 2006. Five of the 19 surviving Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook accidentally killed the other 52 residents of her convent with a foodbourne illness. Mother Superior had a dream that she was to start a greeting card company to raise money for the funerals. The company was such a success that she accidentally spent all of the money of VCR's and Camcorders for the convent, leaving her without funds to pay for the funeral. The nuns are placed on ice and the five sisters decide to stage a variety show to raise the amount necessary. (more...)

Five of the 19 surviving Sisters of Hoboken discover that their cook accidentally killed the other 52 residents of her convent with a foodbourne illness. Mother Superior had a dream that she was to start a greeting card company to raise money for the funerals. The company was such a success that she accidentally spent all of the money of VCR's and Camcorders for the convent, leaving her without funds to pay for the funeral. The nuns are placed on ice and the five sisters decide to stage a variety show to raise the amount necessary. (more...)
