Suzanne Bertish and Paxton Whitehead have been selected to receive the 2014 Joe A. Callaway Award presented by the Actors' Equity Foundation. The award, honoring the best performance in a professional production of a classic play (one written prior to 1920) in the New York metropolitan area, will be presented at Equity's Eastern Regional Membership Meeting at 2 pm today, January 9, 2015 at the Equity offices, 165 West 46th Street, New York. TACT/The Actors Company Theatre is pleased to announce the cast and creative team for Abundance, the 1990 play by Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Beth Henley (Crimes of the Heart). An epic tale of friendship set against the backdrop of the sweeping American West, Abundance will be directed by TACT Co-Artistic Director Jenn Thompson, who directed last season's production of William Inge's Natural Affection. Performances begin at Theatre Row's Beckett Theatre (410 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Avenues) on Tuesday, February 17, 2015. Opening night is set forSunday, March 1 at 6:00pm. For the event, Theater People welcomed back two time Tony nominee Laura Osnes (CINDERELLA, BONNIE & CLYDE) and KINKY BOOTS favorite Ellyn Marie Marsh. Laura talked about life after CINDERELLA, the roles she auditioned for but didn't get to play, starring in the upcoming CAROUSEL, raps Lin-Manuel Miranda style, and cruises hilariously through a lightening round. Triumvirate Artists has announced the World Premiere of Delirium's Daughters, a new and refreshing take on Commedia Dell'Arte by Nicholas Korn (Stage First Cincinnati), directed by Kathleen Butler (Originated roles in Edward Albee's Three Tall Women, Occupant and Marriage Play). Delirium's Daughters will play a three week limited engagement at The Studio Theatre at Theatre Row (410 West 42nd Street, Manhattan). Touring, Reed admits, is physically demanding, and taking on the role for which original Broadway cast member, Michael McGrath won a 2012 Tony award, gave him pause, but he loves the Nice Work cast and creative team, that are “so cohesive, kind and energetic,” all important qualities for taking a production of this scale on the road. Joined by her five-piece band, LuPone's performance features renditions of songs by an eclectic list of songwriters including Stephen Sondheim, Cole Porter, Willie Nelson, Kurt Weill, Edith Piaf, Frederick Hollander, and the Bee Gees. The Cleveland POPS Orchestra with conductor Carl Topilow will salute the Academy Awards for Music at Severance Hall on Friday February 6, 2015. The first half of the two-hour concert starts at 8:00 p.m. and will feature musical selections representing each of the eight decades in which songs and original scores for movies have been recognized by the Academy. The audience will experience, in order of decade, music from The Wizard of Oz (30's), Sea Hawk (40's), Ben Hur (50's) The Graduate (60's), The Godfather (70's), Amadeus (80's), Titanc (90's), and Lord of the Rings (00's). The second hour of the evening will feature a wide selection of songs and scores that were in contention for, but did not win the coveted golden statue - including Chicago, Mamma Mia, Jersey Boys, Les Miserables, West Side Story, West Side Story, My Fair Lady, Mary Poppins, and more. On Monday, December 29, Theater People podcast welcomes beloved Broadway belter, Lindsay Mendez. Mendez, who is well known for having taken on the role of Elphaba in the Broadway mega-hit WICKED for the show's 10th anniversary, made her Broadway debut as Jan in the 2007 Kathleen Marshall helmed GREASE. She was seen on Broadway in the 2010 Roundabout Theater production of EVERYDAY RAPTURE, as well as the 2011 Broadway revival of GODSPELL before being hand picked by famed director Joe Mantello to star in the off-Broadway Pasek and Paul musical DOGFIGHT at Second Stage. She also memorably appeared alongside Lin-Manuel Miranda in Miranda's short musical 21 CHUMP STREET which was commissioned by the NPR show 'This American Life' and performed at BAM. (more...)

Dallas Theater Center heads back to the Kalita Humphreys Theater with The Book Club Play by Karen Zacarias. Meredith McDonough, who previously worked on the new hit musical Fly By Night, returns to make her DTC directorial debut in this comedy about books and the people who love them.
