FIDDLER'S CAVE to Receive World Premiere at Festival of Independent Theatres

Street performer and movement theatre artist Dustin Curry will present the world premiere of the wordless storytelling play "Fiddler's Cave" at this year's Festival of Independent Theatres (FIT). The play, inspired by Ozark Mountain folklore, tells the tale of a lonely fiddle player who finds himself lost and abandoned deep in a cave, with no memory of how he arrived there. Through music, clowning and a bit of theatrical magic, the Fiddler must search his past for answers in order to find a way home. (more...)

Collision Project Will Examine John Lewis' MARCH

The Alliance Theatre has assembled a diverse group of 21 students for the 16th Palefsky Collision Project, an annual program that gives high-school students a platform to tackle important social issues.  Guided by the Alliance's Mellon Playwright in Residence Pearl Cleage, director Patrick McColery, and assistant director Rodney Williams, participants are encouraged to find and claim their own voices within a judgment free zone of creativity and community. This innovative program challenges metro Atlanta teens to 'collide' with a classic text and make it their own.  This year's catalytic text will be Congressman John Lewis's graphic novel March.  As a young student activist, Congressman Lewis was inspired by the 1958 comic book Martin Luther King and the Montgomery Story.  Now he brings the Civil Rights Movement to life for a whole new generation.  (more...)

Marin County will celebrate the 2017 Marin County Fair Let The Funshine In! from June 30 to July 4, 2017.  The Marin County Fair: Let the Funshine In celebrates the 50th anniversary of the Summer of Love emphasizing Marin's dedication to the things we value most in our community, Family, Art, Agriculture and the Environment. In 1967, the Summer of Love kicked-off with a two-day concert on Mt. Tamalpais called the Fantasy Fair and Magic Mountain Music Festival. Nearly 100,000 young people converged on the Haight-Ashbury neighborhood, turning the Bay Area into the epicenter of a cultural phenomenon known as the Summer of Love. The Port Authority of NY & NJ, Westfield and GrowNYC today announced the return of the Greenmarket to the World Trade Center area. This new market, to be known as the Greenmarket at Oculus Plaza, opens today, June 20 th. The original market, established in the shadow of the Twin Towers in 1984, was forced to close when two planes hit the towers on September 11, 2001. This is a significant and emotional homecoming, especially for many of the returning farmers that were present on the day of the attacks and are, finally, coming back to this location. (more...)
