Harwich Junior Theater, a group that boasts productions of ten plays and musicals each year, numerous community outreach and educational programs and a variety of other annual events, is sure to amaze audiences with its current production. Performing such a well-known musical work and presenting it in a new, exciting way that can appeal to children and adults alike (and children were having their share of fun in the audience, which is always a wonderful thing to see) is a daunting task for any creative team; this is especially true because of how vibrant and exhilarating a musical The Music Man is, and keeping that constant energy alive throughout a rather lengthy production is no easy thing to do. It is without doubt, though, that Director Ethan Paulini truly got it right with this production. (more...)

BROADWAY BARKS announces their 17th annual star-studded dog and cat adoption event to benefit New York City animal shelters and adoption agencies. Founded by Bernadette Peters and Mary Tyler Moore, this event features celebrities from the hottest shows on Broadway.  The event, produced by Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, will take place on Saturday, July 11 in Shubert Alley (located between 44th and 45th Streets, between Broadway and Eighth Avenue). The festivities begin at 3:00 p.m. where you meet all the adoptable dogs and cats; celebrity presentations of adoptable pets will take place between 5:00-6:30 p.m. This year's event will be co-hosted by Bernadette Peters and Andrew Rannells (The Book of Mormon, HBO's 'Girls'). NYC Parks presents Living Landmarks, a new exhibit at the Arsenal Gallery in Central Park. The exhibit will be on view weekdays from June 25 through August 28. Organized by NYC Parks Director of Art and Antiquities Jonathan Kuhn and Public Art Coordinator Jennifer Lantzas, the show is mounted on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the NYC Landmarks Law, enacted by Mayor Robert F. Wagner in 1965 with the intention of safeguarding those buildings and places that best represent New York City's cultural, social, economic, political, and architectural history. The law was spurred by the loss of several edifices of great significance, notably Penn Station in 1963, galvanizing the growing preservation movement. (more...)

Copperstar Repertory Co. was all but pronounced dead this fall after being completely upside down and financially destitute. After 21 wonderful shows and six successful summers of Musical Theatre Camps, Copperstar made the heart-breaking decision to shut their doors. In an attempt to cover debt, Copperstar has been forced to liquidate their stock of sets and costumes. However, there may be light at the end of the tunnel for Copperstar and those who have been hoping to see a comeback. Copperstar recently met with Higley Center of the Performing Arts and Higley Community Education and the two organizations will be partnering for Summer Musical Theatre Camps and a community-wide production of LES MISERABLES. The catch is he doesn't know the difference between a trombone and a treble clef! Before he can skip town, the town librarian steals Hill's heart and transforms him into a respectable citizen.
