NJPAC Celebrates Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. ¬"Keeping the Dream¬" Honoring Gloria Hopkins Buck, LCSW & Ryan P. Haygood, Esq.

The New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) will observe Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. with NJPAC's annual Celebration, "Keeping the Dream" on Saturday, January 14th at 5pm.  This private presentation will honor two distinguished members of the Newark Metropolitan community who take action and live the words of the great Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. making a difference in the community where they work and live. This year's honorees are Gloria Hopkins Buck, LCSW who will receive the "Steward of the Dream" award and Ryan P. Haygood, Esqwho will be the recipient of the "Visionary of the Future" award. The celebration will include a special performance by NJPAC's Jazz for Teens and the Grammy Award winning Jubilation Choir who under the leadership and tutelage of Rev. Dr. Stefanie Minatee has released six albums. (more...)

Graceland Celebrates Elvis' Birthday, Priscilla Presley to Attend Grand Opening of New Complex

Graceland¬ģ celebrated Elvis' birthday as construction continues on schedule for the new, state-of-the-art "Elvis Presley's Memphis" entertainment complex across the street from the King of Rock 'n' Roll's Memphis mansion. Graceland guests, fans from around the world, Memphis Mayor Jim Strickland and Shelby County Mayor Mark Luttrell officially celebrated with a proclamation of "Elvis Presley Day" on the front lawn of Graceland and by cutting the largest birthday cake in Graceland history. Other birthday events included concerts and panel discussions, with special guests including "Follow That Dream" movie co-stars Robin and Gavin Koon and award-winning filmmaker Andrew Solt, who made a number of acclaimed films and television specials about Elvis Presley. For the first time ever, birthday celebration events were hosted at Graceland's new AAA Four Diamond-rated resort hotel, The Guest House at Graceland. Two outstanding community leaders in the City of Newark were honored in Living the Dream, a reception on at the New Jersey Performing Arts Center (NJPAC) in observance of the annual Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration. This year's distinguished recipients honored were community advocate Gloria Hopkins Buck, LCSW (Steward of the Dream Award) and civil rights attorney Ryan P. Haygood (Visionary of the Future Award). The awards are given to individuals whose lifework reflects the ideals and principles of Dr. King's great legacy. (more...)
