Ji?i Kylian created Stepping Stones during a visit to Australia as a reflection on man's desire to preserve his heritage. NEW@Graham Series presents An Evening with Pontus Lidberg

As part of its NEW@Graham series, the Martha Graham Dance Company will host a conversation with critically acclaimed choreographer and filmmaker Pontus Lidberg. The evening will include a sneak peek at excerpts from his new film Written on Water,an impossible love story about a choreographer reigniting an encounter from the past. Dance comprises half of this unique narrative, which features Paris Opera Ballet's Aurelie Dupont in the leading role. The newly formed Wallis Youth Theater Company presents its inaugural theater production Word of Mouth-a devised physical theater piece that asks audiences to examine the role words play in creating a culture of fear and division, or a culture of empathy and unity-on January 28 & 29 in the Lovelace Studio Theater at the Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts in Beverly Hills. Directed by Madeleine Dahm, Word of Mouth is an experimental work that was born of the youth theater members' reactions to recent political and social events across the world, and their desire to question the normalization of verbal violence. The Marblehead School of Ballet (MSB) invites dancers to apply now to the school's renowned Summer Dance Intensive and annual excursion to Jacob's Pillow. MSB is accepting applications for its Summer Intensive Dance 2017 programs for dancers ages 11 and over from July 17 to August 5 and children ages 8 to 12 from August 7 to August 11. International students, ages 15 and above with intermediate level dance training, may also apply. The Summer Intensive Dance 2017 programs will be held at 115 Pleasant Street in Marblehead, a historic, scene coastal town located on the North Shore region of Massachusetts in the United States. BWW Review: MARTHA GRAHAM DANCE COMPANY Thrives Anew in 2017

The venerable Martha Graham Dance Company, founded 91 years ago in 1926, is thriving anew after getting past protracted legal battles following modern dance pioneer Graham's death and coping with the loss of historical material during Hurricane Sandy in 2012. Much of the credit for the success of the current iteration of the troupe goes to Janet Eilber, a former Graham principal who has been at the helm as Artistic Director since 2005. She has instituted a policy of not only presenting Graham's classics but also commissioning fresh visions from today's finest choreographers. (more...)
