This July, The New Victory will present its second season of Victory Dance, the theater's initiative to provide FREE dance performances to kids in New York City day camps, school and youth programs over the summer. A three-week series from July 8 - 24, 2015, Victory Dance features a cross-section of highly-accomplished and internationally recognized New York companies who perform a range of contemporary dance styles and share in the theater's goal of inspiring young people to embrace the art form. Highland Park, New Jersey --- Randy James' all male dance company, 10 Hairy Legs, returns to New York Live Arts for its third consecutive New York Season for four performances June 11 -14.   Continuing to showcase the company's extensive repertory that celebrates and explores the artistry of the male dancer, this season features 2 programs, 6 New York City Premieres, 9 works by 10 Choreographers and Live Musical Accompaniment at all performances. Robert Johnson, Dance Critic noted “…since its formation in 2012, its rapid growth has been astonishing…the diversity of this programming is a treat for audiences…this company has also become a welcome source of choreographic commissions…there aren't many repertory companies yet, but when a group like 10 Hairy Legs performs…the scenery changes and styles switch abruptly. Highlights of Festival 2015 include Three Acts, Two Dancers, One Radio Host, a special dance and radio stage production starring Ira Glass, host of This American Life; the return of Nederlands Dans Theater 2; the world premiere of American Ballet Theatre principal dancer Daniil Simkin's INTENSIO; Cuban contemporary ensemble Malpaso Dance Company, performing with GRAMMY Award-winning pianist and composer Arturo O'Farrill and the Afro Latin Jazz Ensemble; and the launch of Martha Graham Dance Company's 90th Anniversary, including a world premiere by eminent choreographer Mats Ek.  (more...)

Now celebrating its 37th year, the annual Museum Mile Festival takes place rain or shine on Tuesday, June 9, 2015, from 6:00pm to 9:00pm. Over 1.5 million people have taken part in this annual celebration since its inception. Festival attendees can walk the Mile on Fifth Avenue between 82nd Street and 105th Street while visiting nine of New York City's finest cultural institutions, which are open free to the public throughout the evening. The Museum Mile Festival's opening ceremony takes place at 5:45pm at Cooper Hewitt, Smithsonian Design Museum (2 East 91st Street). New York City Commissioner of Cultural Affairs Tom Finkelpearl and other city and state dignitaries will open the Festival. Details on the Festival's offerings can be found at MuseumMileFestival.org. Howard County Arts Council (HCAC) is pleased to announce that applications for the FY2016 Mark Ryder Original Choreography Grant Program are now available. This program was established at the bequest of Mark Ryder's family, in honor of his life's work, to recognize individual creative expression, and to provide financial assistance to choreographers to create new original work.  A fund has been established at the Columbia Foundation to enable monies to be awarded for this purpose in perpetuity.  The grant award recipients will be announced at HCAC's Annual Meeting and Grant Awards Ceremony in September 2015.  The minimum grant amount will be $500. Joe's Pub at The Public has announced a new partnership with Philadelphia's renowned Kimmel Center for the Performing Arts for the 2015 Kimmel Center Theater Residency. Under the tutelage of Shanta Thake, Director of Joe's Pub, and Jay Wahl, the Kimmel Center's Artistic Director, the two week program will guide four world-class artists through the writing process and composition of four new works. Bolle and Cornejo have formed an international ensemble of 18 major dancers from 12 foreign countries for three distinctive performances, with many of the dancers performing at The Music Center and in Southern California for the first time. Centenary Stage Company continues its tradition of nurturing artists by offering the Summer Dance Intensive with the professional Nimbus Dance works. This four day summer intensive, open to the public, runs from July 6 to 9 on the campus of Centenary College in Hackettstown, NJ. Intended for ages 14 and up, workshops will include contemporary technique and creative work/performance presentations. Choreographer Jeanette Stoner, known for her very individual sense of dance/theater, often using the spoken word, will present her Jeanette Stoner and Dancers in two world premieres and repertory, performed by an ensemble of artists who have worked with Stoner over the years and are mature interpreters of her vision. Noted choreographer Zvi Gotheiner, who has created the lighting for the Company for years, also returns as lighting designer. Four performances in the Stoner Loft, 83 Leonard Street (#1 train to Franklin, loft is on Leonard between Broadway and Church), Saturday through Tuesday, May 2-5 at 8 PM. (more...)
