United Solo Europe to Kick Off 12 Sept. at Teatr Syrena

This week, United Solo Theatre Festival is launching its new international showcase in Europe. Selected shows will be presented September 12-15, 2013 on the Teatr Syrena stage, a premier, three-hundred seat venue located in downtown Warsaw, Poland. The program includes a solo piece by Regina Advento, a member of Tanztheater Wuppertal Pina Bausch, as well as other shows performed by United Solo veterans and award winners, including Bill Bowers, Mark Gindick, Herbert Kaluza, Ewa Kasprzyk, and Anthony Nikolchev. This overseas showcase in September precedes the major eight-week run of United Solo scheduled for October and November in New York City. (more...)

Today, we're featuring Marcel Marceau in 1983. Marceau joined Jean-Louis Barrault's company and was soon cast in the role of Arlequin in the pantomime, Baptiste (which Barrault had interpreted in the film Les Enfants du Paradis). In 1947 Marceau created Bip the Clown and was first played at the Théâtre de Poche (Pocket Theatre) in Paris. In his appearance he wore a striped pullover and a battered, beflowered silk opera hat. CAPA Opens New Ticket Center

CAPA has moved its box office operations into the space previously occupied by the Ohio Theatre gift shop (39 E. State St.). Dedicated to Barbara and Dr. Ralph Lach in 2010, the new CAPA Ticket Center is located just a few feet from its previous location (from the east side of the Ohio Theatre marquee to the west side). The space was redesigned to enhance customer service and provide patrons with a user-friendly and efficient ticket-buying experience. (more...)
