BWW Review: Le Petit Theatre Celebrates 100 Years with First Show of the Season PIPPIN
by Heidi Scheuermann - Sep 28, 2016

This past weekend was the second in a three week run of Stephen Schwartz's PIPPIN at Le Petit Theatre du Vieux Carre.  The show opened their 2016-2017 season in Le Petit's 100th year, which is something to celebrate in and of itself.  New Orleans is full of history and Le Petit has certainly been a wonderful part of that history for a whole century!  So before I go any further… congratulations to the Le Petit family, and happy 100th birthday! BWW Interview: Ben Vereen of STEPPIN' OUT at The Grand 1894 Opera House
by Bryan-Keyth Wilson - Sep 23, 2016

There's not much one can say when you look at the resume of Ben Vereen. I have to admit I thought the email to interview Mr. Vereen was a hoax or a vile trick someone was playing on me. Now the reason I say this is because he is one of my idols and reasons I studied musical theatre in college and left to go to NYC to work professionally. We are familiar with his work with Bob Fosse as the Leading Player in PIPPIN and as Judas in JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR but Mr. Vereen still continues to give us the ole razzle dazzle on the stage and on the screen. He's starred in 9 Broadway shows, has received the coveted Antionette Perry Award (The Tony), a Drama Desk Award, and a Prism Award. Nominated for an NAACP Image Award, starred in 30 plus movies and television shows, and has a huge crossover career. Ben Vereen hit the scene in Martha Graham's PRODIGAL SON in 1965 and he's been working ever since. I had the esteemed pleasure to sit and talk about his illustrious career and the current projects he's working on currently. (more...)

BWW Review: Named as the Musical of the Decade, WICKED Opens in Sao Paulo
by Claudio Erlichman - Mar 4, 2016

Wicked: The Untold Story of the Witches of Oz is a musical with music and lyrics by Stephen Schwartz and book by Winnie Holzman. It is based on the 1995 Gregory Maguire novel Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, an alternative telling of the 1939 film The Wizard of Oz and L. Frank Baum's classic 1900 story The Wonderful Wizard of Oz. The musical is told from the perspective of the witches of the Land of Oz; its plot begins before and continues after Dorothy's arrival in Oz from Kansas and includes several references to the 1939 film and Baum's novel. Wicked tells the story of two unlikely friends, Elphaba (the Wicked Witch of the West) and Glinda, who struggle through opposing personalities and viewpoints, rivalry over the same love-interest, reactions to the Wizard's corrupt government, and, ultimately, Elphaba's public fall from grace. Astonishing PIPPIN at PPAC is a Spectacular Must-See

There are some shows that tempt a reviewer to write a lengthy essay going into great detail about the many reasons why the show succeeds or fails.
