The 59th Annual Monterey Jazz Festival wrapped up Sunday, September 18 after a weekend of debut artists, returning masters and new favorites. Over 36,600 fans came through the gates of the Monterey County Fairgrounds during the weekend of September 16-18. The weekend featured a festival record-breaking 115 performances of diverse styles of music from around the globe, from tributes and piano trios; big bands to modern jazz, Cuban, blues and fusion groups, mixed with historic conversations, films, and exhibits. CASA 0101 Theater, Josefina Lopez, Artistic Director and the newly formed production company, Angel City Theater Ensemble (ACTE), Vance Valencia, Founder, will present the Los Angeles Premiere of the critically acclaimed play, MARIELA IN THE DESERT, written by Karen Zacarias, directed by Robert Beltran (Star Trek:  Voyager; Zoot Suit; Eating Raoul).  The production will be presented for a five-week run on the theater's Main Stage located at 2102 East First Street (at St. Louis Street), Boyle Heights, CA  90033 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00 p.m. and on Sundays at 5:00 p.m., November 4 - December 11, 2016.  There will be no performances on Thanksgiving Weekend, November 25th, 26th and 27th. Anna Netrebko will add a new role to her wide-ranging Met repertory tonight through December 3 when she sings her first company performances of the seductive, tragic heroine of Puccini's Manon Lescaut.Marcelo Álvarez makes his role debut as Manon's obsessed lover des Grieux, with Christopher Maltman stars as Manon's brother Lescaut and Brindley Sherratt as Geronte, Manon's older lover. The November 21, December 7, and December 10 performances will star Kristine Opolais as Manon, reprising a role she first sang with the company in last season's premiere of Sir Richard Eyre's staging. Marco Armiliato will conduct all performances of Manon Lescaut at the Met this season. Metropolitan Opera Announces Cast Update for MANON LESCAUT

In order to conserve her vocal energies in a season that has included numerous performances of demanding repertory, Anna Netrebko has withdrawn from three of her eight scheduled performances of the title role in Puccini's Manon Lescaut at the Met next season. Single tickets are on sale now for Opera Santa Barbara's 2016-17 season, which will open November 4 and 6 with Georges Bizet's timeless drama Carmen, followed by productions of Leoš Jana?ek's imaginative The Cunning Little Vixen on March 3 and 5, and Giacomo Puccini's richly melodic La Rondine on April 28 and 30. LADIES IN BLACK Returns with National Tour in 2017

?Queensland Theatre Company has announced that the critically acclaimed, smash hit and Helpmann-Award winning musical Ladies in Black will tour nationally in early 2017, opening in Sydney on January 3 for its premiere season in the city in which the story is based. The show will then return for an encore season to Brisbane from January 28, before another encore season in Melbourne from February 25, and to Canberra from March 27. (more...)
