Based on Victor Hugo's classic novel, Boublil and Schonberg's magnificent score of 'Les Miserables'includes the songs, 'I Dreamed a Dream', 'On My Own', 'Stars', 'Bring Him Home', 'Do You Hear the People Sing?', 'One Day More', 'Empty Chairs at Empty Tables', 'Master Of The House' and many more. Now in its 29th sell out year in London 'Les Miserables' originally opened in London at the Barbican Theatre on 8 October 1985, transferred to the Palace Theatre on 4 December 1985 and moved to its current home at the Queen's Theatre on 3 April 2004 where it is still playing to standing room only. When'Les Miserables' celebrated its 21st London birthday on 8 October 2006, it became the World's Longest Running Musical, surpassing the record previously held by 'Cats' in London's West End. In January 2010, the West End production broke another record by celebrating its historic 10,000th performance. In celebration of its 25th anniversary, the legendary musical 'Les Miserables' made theatrical history with an international first - three different productions playing in London simultaneously. Rehearsals begin Monday, January 13 in New York for Cameron Mackintosh's acclaimed new production of Alain Boublil & Claude-Michel Schonberg's Tony Award-winning musical masterpiece Les Miserables, which returns to Broadway beginning Saturday, March 1 at the Imperial Theatre. The official opening night for Les Miserables is Sunday, March 23. Russell Watson to Make West End Debut as Jean Valjean in LES MISERABLES

Salford tenor Russell Watson is said to be soon taking on the role of Jean Valjean. In discussing the part with the Evening Standard, Watson stated, 'I went to see Cameron Mackintosh about doing Les Miserables. We've had a good chat about that. It's something I'd like to do. It would give me a huge amount of satisfaction to play a role like Valjean. I would do it in the West End, towards the end of 2014.' (more...)
