by Audrey Liebross - Mar 11, 2015

RAIN: A TRIBUTE TO THE BEATLES ON BROADWAY will appear in Riverside at Fox PACE at 7:30 p.m. on March 25th and March 26th, 2015. The members of the band Rain have studied the Beatles for twenty years and tour in concert, playing only Beatles music, and emulating the Beatles' style, key, rhythm, and harmonies, note for note. Rain has a repertoire of over 200 Beatle songs that they rotate at their concerts. Some of these pieces are so complex that the Beatles never performed them live, and included them only on their albums, where they could correct mistakes in a recording studio. The members of Rain do everything possible to replicate the look of their particular Beatle, even, for righties portraying Paul McCartney, learning to play the bass and guitar left-handed. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Steadfast Fans of Iconic BARBARA COOK Are 'On Her Side' at Lincoln Center's American SongbookBWW Reviews: Steadfast Fans of Iconic BARBARA COOK Are 'On Her Side' at Lincoln Center's American Songbook
by Alix Cohen - Mar 1, 2015

“Are You Havin' Any Fun?” the formidable Barbara Cook breezily asks in song with the intimacy of an old friend. Having had her first paid (50 cents) singing job at the age of eight, Cook looks back on a lengthy career feeling lucky. It's been weeks since she's sung due to health issues laying her low, but Cook is not, she assures us, by any means down and out. “I like to feel people are on my side and you sure sound like you are.” Throughout her show last night as part of the American Songbook series at Lincoln Center's The Appel Room, the artist performs with honesty, commitment, and the compelling interpretation for which she's well known. She asks that lights be turned up in order to see those with whom she communicates. (more...)

Oscar and Felix Ghostwrite on THE ODD COUPLE!Oscar and Felix Ghostwrite on THE ODD COUPLE!
by Dylan Siegman - Feb 26, 2015

Last week we met the latest reincarnation of Oscar Madison and Felix Unger played by Matthew Perry and Thomas Lennon, respectively. While their characters have almost nothing in common, the two actors do - they are both absolutely hilarious. However, being funny isn't the only thing that keeps a show from getting cancelled, so only time will tell if this new version will stand the test of time. Both characters couldn't be further on the sides of the spectrum, which I imagine was done on purpose in order to show the change that occurs in both characters. This week, guest star Geoff Stults (WEDDING CRASHERS, ENLISTED) plays a retired baseball player who hires Oscar to ghostwrite his autobiography, which Felix then offers to help with. Tune in tonight to see what these two get into! (more...)

BWW Recap: Oscar and Felix are back in THE ODD COUPLE Pilot!BWW Recap: Oscar and Felix are back in THE ODD COUPLE Pilot!
by Dylan Siegman - Feb 19, 2015

You know how the story goes: Boy gets married, other boy gets married, both marriages fall apart, both boys move in together, one boy is sloppy while the other boy is neat, hilarious hijinks ensue. Chances are that you've seen/heard about one of the incarnations of THE ODD COUPLE, whether it was the movie starring Walter Matthau (CHARADE, GRUMPY OLD MEN) and Jack Lemmon (SOME LIKE IT HOT, GRUMPY OLD MEN), the tv series back in the 70's starring Jack Klugman (QUINCY M.E., 12 ANGRY MEN) and Tony Randall (PILLOW TALK, DOWN WITH LOVE), or the original play by Neil Simon on which all the subsequent versions were all based. Regardless, Felix Unger and Oscar Madison are back, this time played by Thomas Lennon (NIGHT AT THE MUSEUM, MEMENTO) and Matthew Perry (FRIENDS, 17 AGAIN). I find both of these actors extremely funny, so it will be interesting to see how this all pans out. Considering Perry's recent string of cancellations, he could really use a winner. (more...)
