This tragic farce, in the tradition of Cutting Ball's hit productions of Ionesco's The Bald Soprano (2010) and Victims of Duty (2008), is as comedic as it is heartbreaking. The choices I have made are based solely on the plays and performances that I actually saw. I cannot see all the great talent that is out there in LA; it is physically impossible, as there exist far too many theatre/cabaret performances for one person to cover. So if a choice of yours is not on my list, chances are, I did not see that play or performance...or, it just did not make the final cut. I also do not separate Equity from Equity waiver; I consider all the productions/performances I select to be of top-of-the-line quality/professionalism. (more...)

The Ensemble of Shattered Globe Theatre is pleased to present AN EVENING OF BECKETT starring renowned Beckett protege and San Quentin Drama Workshop founder Rick Cluchey. The Chicago-born actor performs Beckett's classic one-act Krapp's Last Tape, featuring original direction by the playwright himself. The program concludes with SAM AND RICK, a moderated discussion with Cluchey about his personal experience with Beckett, the playwright's influences on art and theatre, life at San Quentin State Prison, and much more. AN EVENING OF BECKETT will play eight performances only, May 2 - 12, 2013 at Stage 773, 1225 W. Belmont Ave. in Chicago. Cutting Ball Theater concludes its 14th season with the World Premiere of KRISPY KRITTERS IN THE SCARLETT NIGHT, San Francisco playwright Andrew Saito's poetic portrayal of the heart of the city in the spirit of Alan Ginsburg's Howl, William S. Burroughs, and the plays of Suzan-Lori Parks.
