BWW Reviews: KISS ME, KATE schafft unterhaltsamen Openair-Abend in Bad Hersfeld

Nach dem sensationellen Erfolg von „Show Boat" im letzten Jahr warteten die Bad Hersfelder Festspielen in diesem Jahr mit "Kiss Me, Kate" mit einem weiteren Klassiker auf. Das Musical aus der Feder von Cole Porter spielt hinter (und vor) den Kulissen einer musikalischen Inszenierung von Shakespeares "Der Widerspenstigen Zahmung". Im Mittelpunkt steht dabei Diva Lilli Vanessi (Katharina Mehrling), die nach langerer Zeit im Filmgeschaft wieder zu ihren Theaterwurzeln zuruckgehrt ist, um die Rolle der Kate an der Seite ihres ehemaligen Geliebten Fred (Thomas Borchert) zu spielen. Wie bei einer solch explosiven Besetzung kaum anders zu erwarten, kommt es am Premierenabend zu reichlich Konflikten zwischen den beiden, die auch das Geschehen auf der Buhne beeinflussen. Als Lilli frustriert mitten in der Auffuhrung abreisen will, kommen zwei Ganoven zur Hilfe, die finanzielles Interesse am Erfolg der Show haben. Sie uberzeugen Lilli mit nicht ganz lupenreinen Methoden davon zu bleiben. (more...)

Brian Stokes Mitchell to Lead THE BAND WAGON for Encores! This November

Tony Award winner Brian Stokes Mitchell will star in The Band Wagon, an Encores! Special Event based on the classic MGM movie of the same title, from November 6 - 16, 2014 at City Center. The show has a book by Douglas Carter Beane adapted from the screenplay by Betty Comden and Adolph Green, with music by Arthur Schwartz and lyrics by Howard Dietz. The Band Wagon will be directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Kathleen Marshall with music direction by Todd Ellison. The Band Wagon will run for 12 performances, by special arrangement with Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures. (more...)

Mercer County Community College's (MCCC) Kelsey Theatre is rolling out the classics for the 2014-15 season. Long-time theater lovers can revisit their favorite musicals and dramas, while younger audiences will have an opportunity to see the greats for the very first time. Twenty full-length dramas and musical productions come to the Kelsey stage, along with eight shows offered through the Kelsey Kids Series performed by traveling professional troupes and local companies.
