The Stratford Festival of Canada, whose present artistic director is Atoni Cimolino, started on July 13, 1953, when Sir Alec Guiness walked onto a stage located in a large tent and spoke the first lines of what has become the internationally-recognized celebration of theatre. Now housed in five theatres, offering plays and other entertainment from late April to November, Stratford is the largest repertoire theatre in North America. The offerings are not only the writings of Shakespeare, but a variety of classical and contemporary works, including musicals. (more...)

Artistic Director Tony Simotes welcomes Award-Winning Canadian Playwright Vern Thiessen for a special Talk Back focusing on his provocative one-woman play Shakespeare's Will, on Saturday, August 9th immediately following the 3:00pm performance. The 85-minute play, directed by Daniela Varon and starring Kristin Wold, both of whom will be on-hand for the Talk Back, imagines the bold and unapologetic journey of Shakespeare's enigmatic wife, Anne Hathaway, and the couple's unconventional courtship and marriage. Shakespeare's Will kicked off the Company's celebratory season back in May honoring the 450th anniversary of Shakespeare's birth. Shakespeare Celebration Set for Bryn Mawr Performing Arts Series, 10/4

The Bryn Mawr College Performing Arts Series plays, acts and dances a happy 450th birthday to William Shakespeare in a Bard's Birthday Bash with Scenes, Sonnets, Music and Dance with Members of Piffaro and Guests on Saturday, October 4 at 8:30 p.m. at Thomas Great Hall. Piffaro, playing reconstructions of Renaissance instruments such as shawms, dulcians, sackbuts, recorders, krumhorns, bagpipes, lutes, guitars, harps and a variety of percussion, perform music of Shakespeare's time including old English ballads, instrumental fantasies and country dances, some with direct connections to his plays. The program will weave in scenes from some of Shakespeare's most popular plays directed by Barrymore Award-winning director James J. Christy and performed by leading local actors. The celebration concludes with dancing, taught to the audience by Renaissance dancing master Dorothy Olsson. (more...)

Fans of The Human Race's 2008 production of Tom Dudzick's national hit Over the Tavern will rejoice at the regional premiere of the playwright's 'rollicking' Miracle on South Division Street, directed by Human Race Resident Artist Richard E. Hess (Race, Red, Doubt). 60 years ago, Grandpa Nowak had a vision of the Virgin Mary in his Buffalo, New York barbershop and had an unusual statue of her made to commemorate the miracle. For decades, his family has faithfully tended to his quirky shrine-a source of hope and inspiration in an otherwise run-down part of town. That is until a deathbed confession knocks them for a loop in this hilarious hit comedy that proves when it comes to local legends, there's more than meets the eye.
