Wheelock Family Theatre opens its 34th season with ALICE, a musical reimagining of Lewis Carroll's classics, ALICE'S ADVENTURES IN WONDERLAND and ALICE THROUGH THE LOOKING GLASS. WFT veteran Andrew Barbato wrote the adaptation and directs the production featuring a garden of flower buds played by children who may one day follow in his footsteps, as well as some perennials on local theater stages who deserve to have more than a few bouquets tossed their way. From seedlings to adolescents to full-grown, the vibrant members of this ensemble are all ready to embark on the journey with Alice, down the rabbit hole and wherever it may lead. (more...)

After extended runs at 54 Below and Joe's Pub in New York, the show recently made its Los Angeles debut and is back for another performances. The Meeting* has been called 'delicious and delightfully droll' by The New York Post, and 'hilarious and sardonic' by The Village Voice. A story for Slate.com called the evening 'so deliciously icy that it left me shivering with fear and delight.' We were so lucky to have great support from all the staff at the clinic that really put their hearts into making this video and of course to everyone who voted for us,” said Jane Priestley of Clínica Bofill. “The prize money will be awarded to Oncolliga de Girona and will be destined specifically for breast cancer patients. Shedding considerable light on the development of the idiosyncratic rock musical, Trask discusses his influences and the organic way in which the outre show developed from humble beginnings at downtown bar Squeezebox in the mid-1990s, to Off-Broadway hit at the turn of the new century all the way to the rapturously received feature film adaptation, and, now, the 2014 Broadway production. Trask also details his affection for Tony Award-winning lead actor Neil Patrick Harris and looks ahead to the new leading man donning the titular wig, Andrew Rannells. The work was inspired by the creation of a gleaming new avenue in the heart of Madrid - La Gran Via – a thoroughfare that has become as famous as London's Piccadilly or Broadway in New York. “We have taken Chueca's short form zarzuela or genero chico” says Guillermo Silva-Marin, “and added well-known works from other zarzuela masters…just as was done during that time in Madrid.” The full afternoon will be a musical revue in the grand manner of the world's most exciting entertainment centres.
