According to Vulture, Clueless director Amy Heckerling revealed that she is currenly in the "really, really, early, early stages" of creating a musical version of the hit 1995 film. Heckerling has written both a book and song lyrics for the show herself, and she even has a star in mind. She told Vulture: "Katy Perry has expressed interest, and I love her to death." On Twitter Watch, Jane Lynch wrote 'The stunning performance of @actuallynph in #hedwig inspired me in this photo on the Bway set. Tony nominee Andrew Rannells will soon succeed Neil Patrick Harris in Hedwig and the Angry Inch on Broadway. Rannells, who is contracted for an eight week run, will take on the title role beginning August 20, after Harris departs on August 17. HEDWIG AND THE ANGRY INCH was originally produced by David Binder off off Broadway at Westbeth and then, under the direction of Peter Askin, ran over two years at the Jane Street Theatre beginning in February 1998. The musical won the Outer Critics Circle Award for Best Off-Broadway Musical and both John Cameron Mitchell andStephen Trask won Obies in 2001. It won a 1998 New York Magazine Award and Entertainment Weekly's 'Soundtrack of the Year' Award. Time Magazine named HEDWIG the Top Musical of 1998. ' (more...)

California Musical Theatre released casting for the remaining shows in the 64th Music Circus season, a roster of actors including Broadway veterans, Tony nominees and audience favorites from previous Music Circus seasons, as well as actors with Sacramento-area ties. The five-show season at the Wells Fargo Pavilion includes the Music Circus premiere of the beloved Disney classic Mary Poppins, which runs through July 13, as well as other Tony Award-winning shows including Rodgers and Hammerstein's lush South Pacific, Lerner and Loewe's mystical Brigadoon, Jerry Herman and Harvey Fierstein's hilarious La Cage aux Folles, and the singular sensation A Chorus Line, which ended its week-long run on June 29.
