by BWW News Desk - Mar 27, 2015

As the temperature rises and the summer season grows closer each day, it's almost time to pack those picnic baskets and head to Irvine for five music-infused evenings under the stars with Pacific Symphony. Taking place at the Verizon Wireless Amphitheater, the 2015 Summer Festival begins with the annual “July 4 Spectacular,” featuring Faithfully, a symphonic tribute to the music of Journey, and an explosive fireworks finale. The quintessential Southern California summer experience continues as Assistant Conductor Alejandro Gutiérrez leads pianist Rueibin Chen in Beethoven's “Emperor” Concerto and conducts Rimsky-Korsakov's “Scheherazade.” Kicking up the tempo, Music Director Carl St.Clair leads “Hot Latino Nights” featuring Ravel's “Bolero,” salsa dancing and special guests J.T. and Friends. The Symphony performs Academy-Award winner Michael Giacchino's score for “Star Trek” live as J.J. Abrams' 2009 blockbuster plays on the big screen, led by Principal Pops Conductor Richard Kaufman. Finally, the Symphony delivers the annual OC favorite: “Tchaikovsky Spectacular,” featuring guest pianist Olga Kern and bombastic fireworks and cannons during the “1812” Overture. (more...)

Joy Cieslarski is proud to announce the release of her novel, 'The Fury of Angels.' 'The Fury of Angels' depicts a man's struggle to find his place in the world of angels of light and darkness; causing him to make decisions that may compromise those he loves. The book trailer for 'The Fury of Angels' was revealed today on DGT Book Promotion news. In addition, Cieslarski shared her insights in an interview this week on the Reading and Writing Addiction blog about the inspiration for 'The Fury of Angels.' Joy Cieslarski's interview can be followed at www.readinwritin.blogspot.com and the official trailer for 'The Fury of Angels' can be viewed on YouTube. About The Book 'Suddenly, a loud sound jolted him from his reminiscing. He could no longer deny what needed to be done. When he looked down at his hands, the proof was evident. Red...all he could see was red.' 'The Fury of Angels' The minute their hands touched that day in the drugstore, William and Sadie were bonded forever. When their son was born, everything they thought they knew was changed forever. Each is forced to make impossible choices as to the child's future and their part in it. His birth was a miracle, they realize. They can't quite grasp the unshakable fact their son somehow holds the key to the destiny of humanity. A fatal decision alters everything, including the perfect life they had envisioned for their infant son. As their son Mark matures into manhood, he pursues a career as a paramedic. On an emergency call, he meets an elderly woman and soon finds himself immersed in a world he never imagined. Even those closest to him become suspect when their actions straddle the boundaries of right and wrong. Mark begins to question the seeming contradictions between the truth he knows and the truth being shown to him. As a battle between good and evil ensues, Mark is caught in the middle. With whom does his allegiance rest? His emotional life is turned Inside Out as he faces his beliefs about angels and their place in his world. Will he make the right choice or choose a path which may ultimately destroy him and those he holds close? About The Author Joy Cieslarski, author of 'Secrets Among Us', 'Broken Bonds' and 'Trust Not To Deceive', takes her first foray into fantasy fiction with 'The Fury of Angels.' BWW Reviews: Theatre Memphis' RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN - 'Blistered Sisters'BWW Reviews: Theatre Memphis' RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN - 'Blistered Sisters'
by Joseph Baker - Apr 13, 2015

While watching the Next Stage production of Gina Gionfriddo's RAPTURE, BLISTER, BURN at Theatre Memphis, I was reminded of John Van Druten's screenplay for the 1943 Warner Brothers film OLD ACQUAINTANCE. It was one of those 'women pictures' which provided thespic opportunities for the likes of actresses like Bette Davis and Miriam Hopkins, who, in fact, were the lead players in this particular film. In their youth, the two women had been friends, but as their paths parted in life, the Davis character, brittle and alone, became a critically acclaimed (if financially challenged) author, while the Hopkins character, finally penning a bestseller (trash that it is, it rakes in the 'big bucks'), jealously desires what Davis has. I couldn't help thinking, if Gionfriddo's RAPTURE had fallen into the hands of a director like Vincent Sherman, I could see Davis as the 'Catherine Croll' character, who, despite national recognition and an evidently fulfilling career, begins to have doubts about her life choices. (If you've ever seen the famous car scene in Joseph L. Mankiewicz's ALL ABOUT EVE, also starring Davis, you'll hear the character of stage actress 'Margo Channing' lament what a woman gives up when she devotes herself entirely to a career: I wonder if this very scene influenced Ms. Gionfriddo in her characterizations.) The other character, 'Gwen,' would obviously have been given over to Hopkins, who would have shone as the once promising woman who jettisoned her own burgeoning promise to marry 'Don Harper,' who once had been Catherine's intended (George Brent, anyone?). by Kaitlin Milligan - Apr 1, 2015

On this episode of COMMUNITY, the Dean has a major announcement to make: he's openly gay—well sort of. The Dean, in order to get a spot on the School Board, has to come out as openly gay, so that the otherwise inept Board can look like they are open to all people (in light of their recent controversy of cancelling a Pride Parade). The Dean really wants the position, but hates lying about what he is, since as he says, gay barely begins to explain him. (more...)
