Today, Luther Burbank Center for the Arts (The Center) announced the addition of three new performances to its 2016 lineup. On Tuesday, August 9, 2016 at 8 p.m., the famed British pop group Culture Club will make its Sonoma County debut. On Friday, October 21, 2016 at 8 p.m., Paula Poundstone, one of the country's foremost humorists, will also make her debut at the The Center for a special evening of comedy. On Sunday, November 27, 2016 at 3 p.m., the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus returns to The Center with their special festive holiday show, Home for the Holidays! Tickets for Culture Club range in price from $79-$149. Tickets for Paula Poundstone range in price from $29-$39. Tickets for the San Francisco Gay Men's Chorus range from $19-$50. Sundance Institute to Launch New 'FilmTwo' Initiative

The new FilmTwo Initiative, led by the Institute's renowned Feature Film Program, with generous support from Founding Partner NBCUniversal, will offer selected directors specialized creative and tactical guidance in navigating the unique challenges of making their second feature films. Founder and Artistic Director of The Black Iris Project, Jeremy McQueen is an award-winning emerging choreographer. A 2013 recipient of the Joffrey Ballet of Chicago's Choreographers of Color Award and two-time finalist of the Capezio Award for Choreographic Excellence, McQueen's work has appeared at Jacob's Pillow Dance's Inside/Out series (in 2012 & 2013), Dancers Responding to AIDS' Fire Island Dance Festival, the Young Choreographer's Festival, and more. McQueen has appeared in the Broadway National Tours of 'Wicked' and 'The Color Purple', in addition to the Metropolitan Opera's productions of 'Die Fledermaus', 'Aida', 'Les Contes d'Hoffmann', and 'Don Giovanni'. McQueen currently teaches ballet for ABT's and Ailey's educational outreach programs. A graduate of The Ailey School/Fordham University B.F.A Program, he's trained as a scholarship recipient with American Ballet Theatre, San Francisco Ballet, and Alonzo King's LINES Ballet. (more...)

I didn't catch Rosemary Loar's original 2006 presentation of 'Quando Swing,' but I can't imagine it performed with more muscular honesty than it was Wednesday night at the Metropolitan Room in the latest monthly installment of Producer Stephen Hanks' 'New York Cabaret's Greatest Hits' series. We've come to expect lucid, intriguing shows from the vocalist, but engagement level on this occasion felt almost cathartic. Energy was full tilt, lyric communication authentic. (more...)

Katharine will travel to Danville, Kentucky this summer to teach a master class to the inmates at a local prison who participate in Voices Inside.
