WGN America's MANHATTAN Hits Over 2.2 Million Total Viewers with L+3

LOS ANGELES, Aug. 1, 2014 /PRNewswire/ WGN America's critically acclaimed drama 'Manhattan' increased its audience in Live + 3 viewing for last Sunday's premiere night, growing to more than 2.2 million Total Viewers (+24%), 796,000 Adults 25-54 (+31%) and 634,000 Adults 18-49 (+38%), for its three-play gross telecasts on WGN America and 14 of Tribune's local stations. The telecast aired in all of Tribune's 33 markets; however, the remaining 19 markets do not receive daily demographic data. Rubicon's Youth Production of THE DROWSY CHAPERONE to Run 8/13-16

Rubicon's Summer Youth Program presents The Drowsy Chaperone, the Tony Award-winning musical with music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison based on a book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar. With direction by Brian McDonald, musical direction by Miriam Arichea and choreography by Carolanne Marano, The Drowsy Chaperone features over 25 local youth performers in a production well suited for children, adults and families. Berkeley Rep Announces The Create Campaign

Berkeley Repertory Theatre has grown from a modest beginning in a storefront on College Avenue to one of the premier theatres in the country. The 46-year-old Theatre with an international reputation has served more than 4 million people, amassed numerous awards including the Tony Award for Outstanding Regional Theatre, presented nearly 400 productions, transferred 29 shows to New York, and premiered over 67 new plays. This year alone Berkeley Rep successfully served 23,000 young people through its School of Theatre, making a huge impact on the community. Now, the Theatre turns the page on a new chapter with the launch of the Create Campaign, a $50 million comprehensive campaign to strengthen the relationship between artists, audiences, and the community, and to transform Berkeley Rep into one of the foremost centers for new play development in the country. At the core of the three-year campaign are two major initiatives: the $14 million expansion of the Theatre's Harrison Street campus into a center for artistic innovation, and a $6 million renovation of the Thrust Stage, Berkeley Rep's signature performance space. The campaign will also bolster the Theatre's annual fund and capital reserve fund, and will invest in its staff. With the Create Campaign, Berkeley Rep is poised to re-invest in its commitment to make transformative, bold, and ambitious theatre for generations to come. (more...)

Brandeis University Acquires Personal Papers of Comedian Lenny Bruce

Brandeis University has acquired the personal papers of Lenny Bruce. Bruce was an American stand-up comedian, social critic and satirist. He was renowned for his open, free-style and critical form of comedy which integrated politics, religion, sex, and vulgarity. His private life was marked by substance abuse and promiscuity as well as efforts to prevent his wife from working as a stripper. His 1964 conviction in an obscenity trial was followed by a posthumous pardon, the first in New York State history, by then-Governor George Pataki in 2003. He paved the way for future outspoken counterculture-eracomedians, and his trial for obscenity, in which – after being forced into bankruptcy – he was eventually pardoned, is seen as a landmark trial for freedom of speech in the US. To determine the winner, Groupon ranked 150 cities based on how much residents have spent so far this year on pampering Groupon deals, including haircuts and coloring, nails, facials, teeth whitening and tanning.
