BWW Review: SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW Is a Mess; on Stage and Off at the Dr. Phillips CenterBWW Review: SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW Is a Mess; on Stage and Off at the Dr. Phillips Center
by Matt Tamanini - Feb 21, 2015

Let me start this review by saying that I generally like everything that I see; at least to a certain degree. I can usually find some redeeming artistic moment of any production to tide me over when the work as a whole isn't up to par. However in SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW, running through March 1st at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, I found almost no redeeming moments; nearly nothing on which to hang even the slightest artistic appreciation. This "show" involves a collection of eight clownish-type individuals who walk around the stage for an hour and 45 minutes (including a 15 minute intermission) and do little more than make a mess. In a word, this show is nonsense; and not fun, clownish nonsense, just plan "this makes no sense" nonsense. (more...)

by Steve Wilson - Feb 2, 2015

Astonishing best describes The Miraculous Journey of Edward Tulane, which opened Friday January 23 at the Coterie Theatre in Crown Center. David P. Saar directs a production that begins as just another children's story and quickly transforms into one of the most charming, enchanting, heartwarming, and sensitive tales told on a Kansas City stage. Everything about the show, lighting, sound, costumes, performances, etc. comes together in such grandeur that I personally believe it is one of the best productions presented on any stage in the metropolitan area.
