The play will run in the Victor Jory Theatre beginning on March 20, opening March 22 and running through April 7th. MIRANDA SINGS! is an Internet character created in 2008 by American comedian, actress and singer Colleen Ballinger. Delivered with a sassy attitude, Ballinger displays videos of the comically talentless, egotistical and quirky character on her youtube channel. On these videos, the character sings badly and rants about her critics, the 'haters'. Ballinger also featured the character on a second youtube channel, where the character is popularly known to discuss a topic or gives a tutorial of the day. John Finch, an animatorat work on Disney's Alice in Wonderland, wants Alice. When the great and outrageous Salvador Dali arrives at the studio to work on a short animated film (this part is actually true), life becomes curiouser and curiouser. Dali scandalizes the conservative Finch; Alice, coffee-bearing secretary, becomes Alice, girl down the rabbit hole; and Finch and Alice both experience the very surreal whimsies of the human heart. The internationally acclaimed L.A. Theatre Works is bringing its unique, hybrid radio theater-style production of The Graduate to the McCallum Theatre on February 25 at 8:00 pm. The sly and witty coming-of-age story of a young and innocent college grad seduced by an older woman was a theatrical sensation when it premiered at the Gielgud Theatre in London's West End, then transferred to Broadway. LA based actor Brian Tichnell plays the slightly neurotic Benjamin Bratton in this critically acclaimed production. I had the opportunity to chat with Tichnell about the production. Artistic Director Les Waters and Managing Director Jennifer Bielstein have announced O Guru Guru Guru, or why I don't want to go to yoga class with you by Mallery Avidon, directed by former Actors Theatre directing intern Lila Neugebauer. The play will run in the Victor Jory Theatre beginning on March 20, opening March 22 and running through April 7th. The production is part of the 37th Humana Festival of New American Plays, made possible by a generous grant from the Humana Foundation. (more...)
