Joey Folsom to Lead WaterTower Theatre's HANK WILLIAMS: LOST HIGHWAY; Cast Announced

WaterTower Theatre Producing Artistic Director Terry Martin today announced the cast for Hank Williams: Lost Highway running October 11 - November 3, 2013 on the Main Stage at the Addison Theatre Centre. Joey Folsom stars as Hank Williams. The cast features several WaterTower Theatre favorites including Pam Dougherty as Mama Lilly, Stan Graner as Fred Rose (Pap), Mikaela Krantz as Audrey Williams, Joseph Holt as Leon (Loudmouth) and Sonny Franks as Jimmy (Burrhead). The cast also includes Major Attaway as Tee-Tot,Christia Mantzke as The Waitress, Dave Rankin as Hoss and Dennis Bailey as Shag. This production is sponsored by Frost Bank and WaterTower Theatre Board of Directors. (more...)

The season begins with the Chicago professional premiere of Hank Williams: Lost Highway by award-winning playwrights Randal Myler and Mark Harelik, directed by Damon Kiely, today, September 5 - October 6; the 12th smash year of It's a Wonderful Life: Live in Chicago! , now at the 199-seat Greenhouse Theater Center, directed by Ensemble member Marty Higginbotham, November 22 - December 29; world premiere of 2012 Blue Ink Playwriting Award-winning script American Myth by Christina Gorman, directed by Steve Scott, February - March 2014; Chicago premiere of 2012 Smith Prize winner Grounded by George Brant, June 2014. Directing the season opener, Hank Williams: Lost Highway (October 11-November 3, 2013) will be Michael Serrecchia. The Game's Afoot (or Holmes for the Holidays) (December 13- January 5, 2014) will be directed by Robin Armstrong. The Adventures of Tom Sawyer (January 24-February 16, 2014) will be directed by Emily Scott Banks. Flat Rock Playhouse presents The Last Five Years, from May 29 - June 22 at the Playhouse Downtown. This beautiful, modern musical explores the five-year relationship between two young New Yorkers, Jamie, a rising novelist, and Cathy, a struggling actress. What makes this story unusual is its simultaneous, yet vastly different depiction from end to end. Jamie is telling the audience the story from the beginning while Kathy shares her story from the end. It is probably the only love story where the two central characters only lock eyes once… in the middle of their story… during their wedding. The rest of the time the audience is a party to their lives, witnessing the ups and downs of their relationship. (more...)

Danni Smith & Peter Oyloe to Lead Theo Ubique's PASSION; Cast Announced

Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre's production of Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine's Passion will feature three Jeff-Award lauded performers in its lead roles, Artistic Director Fred Anzevino has announced. The role of Fosca, the sickly woman obsessed with a handsome young soldier in 19th Century Italy, will be played by Danni Smith, who just last year was honored with the Jeff Award for Actress in a Supporting Role for her work in Bailiwick Chicago's production of the musical See What I Wanna See. Smith's win came after two previous nominations in the same category, for Theo Ubique's Pump Boys and Dinettes and Bohemian Theatre Ensemble's The Glorious Ones. Playing Giorgio, the military officer who is the object of Fosca's affections, will be Peter Oyloe, a three-time Jeff Award winner. Oyloe's recent win as best leading actor in a musical for 2013's Hank Williams: Lost Highway was preceded by wins for his leading role in Equus and supporting role in The Pillowman, both at Redtwist Theatre. Collette Todd, Jeff-nominated for her role as Giulietta in Theo Ubique's Aspects of Love and recipient of critical and audience raves for her leading roles in Light Opera Works' productions of Man of La Mancha, Oliver! and Annie Get Your Gun, will play Clara - the third member of Passion's love triangle. The Doyle & Debbie Show, the spot-on, critically acclaimed country music parody that simultaneously lampoons and pays homage to the genre's tradition of iconic duos, makes its Minneapolis debut February 22-March 30, 2014 at Hennepin Theatre Trust's New Century Theatre. Producing Artistic Director Gwendolyn Whiteside and American Blues Theater, Chicago's second oldest Equity ensemble, are proud to announce the first production in American Blues Theater's 'Legends and Legacies' season, Hank Williams: Lost Highway, by Randal Myler and Mark Harelik, directed by Damon Kiely, music director Malcolm Ruhl and starring Matt Brumlow as 'Hank Williams,' August 30 - October 6, at the Greenhouse Theater Center's Downstage Mainstage Theater, 2257 N. Jason Petty, the 2003 Obie Award winning star of Hank Williams: Lost Highway joins forces with Carolyn Martin, the 2008 Western Swing Female Vocalist of the Year in tribute to two of country music's greatest legends. Tunes like Dream, Walking After Midnight, Someday, Sweet Drams, Hey Good Lookin', Jambalaya, Your Cheatin' Heart, I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry will be performed with impeccable musicianship!
