BWW Review: Director Michael Rothhaar Transforms THE FOREIGNER Into The Laughfest It Was Meant To Be
by Shari Barrett - May 8, 2016

When I heard the Morgan-Wixson Theatre was presenting THE FOREIGNER by Larry Shue, I was hesitant to review the show, wondering why anyone would want to produce a show I had found offensive and not at all funny the first time I saw it elsewhere. But I am happy to report director Michael Rothhaar has mined every moment of humor in Shue's play, keeping me and the audience in stitches throughout thanks to his obvious knowledge on how to present it, as well as his excellent casting of all roles. BWW Recap: Truth and Consequence on THE GOOD WIFE
by Jacqueline Bublitz - May 3, 2016

This doesn't feel like a penultimate episode. Like the penultimate episode. Mind you I'm watching 'Verdict' with a slight fever and a large dose of feeling sorry for myself. And perhaps I'm in denial. Surely this is just any old episode of THE GOOD WIFE. Presenting a ton of moving parts that will take weeks and months to resolve (with some, inexplicably, let go along the way). That's THE GOOD WIFE we know and love, right? (more...)

BWW Interview: Simon Gleeson Talks LES MISERABLES' Return to the Singapore Stage This June
by Rocky Christopher Fajardo - May 23, 2016

Simon Gleeson has always been very vocal about how he grew up to the music and the stirring plot of LES MISERABLES. Now as the lead actor in one of the most acclaimed touring productions of the Alain Boublil and Claude Michel Schonberg legendary musical, his primal recollections of the show still remain deeply rooted in him, just as his portrayal of Valjean is most assuredly deeply emblazoned onto the subconsciousness of audiences who have had the privilege to see him in this musical theater role of a lifetime. BWW Review: GIRL OF THE GOLDEN WEST at Theatreworks
by Christi Esterle - May 2, 2016

I admit it, melodrama is something of a Guilty pleasure of mine. I don't mean 'melodrama' in the way you're thinking, with audiences booing and hissing the mustache-twirling villain as he ties some dewy blonde to the railroad tracks. I mean stories where everything-the characters, the situations, the emotions-are larger than life. It's one of the reasons I enjoy musicals so much; after all, what could be more melodramatic than singing out your feelings at the top of your lungs? (more...)

BWW Blog: Micah Young - Ease On Down Your Road
by Guest Blogger: Micah Young - May 10, 2016

There are a million reasons not to do something.  Going to the audition seems overwhelming: you're tired, there's subway traffic.  It's raining out.  Practicing that song, or writing that scene just seems like too much work.  But beyond the reasons you can find for yourself to not take action, there are a multitude of 'nay-sayers' in life, who casually if not directly, say "don't." BWW Review: NEWSIES is a Rollicking Good Time, If You Turn Off Your Brain
by Jay Irwin - Apr 27, 2016

I will admit to the fact that the original 1992 film of "Newsies" is one of my Guilty pleasures. So when I heard they were making a stage version of the musical I was dubious but excited. The original already made you overlook much of the schlock, cheese, historical inaccuracies and plot holes. But the stage version, currently at the Paramount Theatre, with its retooled story forces even more of a willing suspension of disbelief almost to the point of brain death. But if you can manage that level of tucking rational thought into some dark corner then you're bound to have a good time as this spectacle is loaded with tons of vibrancy and a bevy of cute "boys" who sure do sing and dance pretty. BWW Recap: Now Is The Hour on THE GOOD WIFE
by Jacqueline Bublitz - Apr 25, 2016

I'm conflicted. That was a great episode. Except when it wasn't. I laughed, I cried (the goodbyes!), and red wine didn't help me understand my feelings any better. Was I watching parody? Homage? A wink-nod combination of both? Parties can be hard work, and this house 'Party' was no exception … (more...)

by Amanda Etchison - Apr 11, 2016

A chill in the air in Ohio State's Mershon Auditorium Friday evening was not entirely due to the unseasonable snowflakes that fell from the sky outside. Rather, a hair-raising performance of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" by the Ohio State University Opera and Lyric Theatre greatly contributed to the spooky atmosphere, sending shivers up the spines of those who dared to delve into the world of this dark musical thriller.
