BWW Reviews: Runaway Stage Productions' BONNIE & CLYDE
by Meg Masterson - Sep 7, 2014

The production is a good effort on Runaway's part, but Bonnie and Clyde's writing is not the best material to work with. The show leaves me questioning why we are retelling this story, especially in such a bland manner. If we are going to revive our folk heroes on stage, they deserve something with a little more spark than Wildhorn's formulaic treatment. (more...)

BWW Blog: THE RESIDUALS Say 'Support Your Friends... Do It Now!'
by The Residuals - Sep 12, 2014

I didn't get into this business to be the first actor, or the only actor. I'm pretty sure some Greek person locked that up a few thousand years ago. So why, after not a whole helluva lot of years out of college, did I greet news of my friends' and acquaintances' successes with little more than fear and self-consciousness? Furthermore: why did I even greet news of their failures and setbacks (real talk, now) with some sub-level of relief? Why don't we like each other's work more often? Why is it easier to watch a stranger's work than someone we know? Why; for that matter, do some of the greatest actors this world has to offer get crapped on via the anonymous internet every day? BWW---I submit to you now---that the response to those questions, and to your impulses to do the same, is that it shouldn't be that way, and it doesn't have to be. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Gamm Opens Season with Riveting Solo Show GROUNDED
by Robert Barossi - Sep 10, 2014

'With literature, human beings have invented a way of enabling us to try out and weigh up the possibilities of action and thought.' That excellent quote by author Michael Rosen also sums up the essential quality of live theater. It allows the audience to actually experience a moment in time, a moment in the life of a person or people, and share in that moment. Not only share in it, but truly live it and feel it. Grounded, the first play of the Gamm's 30th season, perfectly accomplishes this feat, giving the audience an entirely real experience, allowing us to live inside the mind of a person and become one with their actions and thoughts.
