BWW Recap: GREY'S ANATOMY Avoids Catastrophe, but Hasn't Yet Found the Cure
by Lauren Gienow - Sep 30, 2016

“Catastrophe And The Cure”—The second episode of season 13 of GREY'S ANATOMY aired last night, and the show continues to move each plot forward in interesting ways—Alex continues to face the repercussions of his assault on Deluca—personally, professionally, and legally; Both Jo and Deluca also have to face the emotional and professional fallout of Alex's actions; the Meredith/Maggie/Riggs love triangle continues its slow and awkward burn toward inevitable hurt feelings—even though Meredith somehow seems to think that this is avoidable; Jackson and April work to figure out the whole parenting-while-divorced-and-while-mom-is-recovering-from-surgery thing; and Owen and Amelia adapt to being married and therefore kind of needing to communicate with each other—a skill at which this couple has always fluctuated from being awful to amazing. Those fluctuations continued last night. (more...)

BWW Review: ASSASSINS Musically Explores the Minds of Those Who Attempted to Assassinate the President of the United States
by Shari Barrett - Sep 28, 2016

The great genius of contemporary musical theater, creator of Sweeney Todd, Into the Woods and Company, Stephen Sondheim leads audiences on a tuneful revue of presidential assassins and would-be killers from John Wilkes Booth to John Hinckley. The performance is guided by the Proprietor (brilliantly portrayed by Will Shure) who takes you through a most unusual musical history lesson in the form of a carnival game called "Shoot the Prez - Win a Prize" during which the sounds of each era accompany riveting portrayals of history's most impassioned and deranged. Thought-provoking and darkly delightful, ASSASSINS won five Tony Awards in its first revival on Broadway and remains one of the most controversial Broadway musicals ever written. (more...)

Sultan + Shepard Love Me Crazy (Breathe Carolina Remix) Out Now via Armada Music
by BWW News Desk - Sep 2, 2016

Following on from their latest single 'Love Me Crazy' Sultan + Shepard have revealed the remix for the track which comes from Breathe Carolina. Transforming Sultan + Shepard's original masterpiece into an all out EDM Banger, Breathe Carolina show why they're one of the hottest acts of the moment. Their rendition of 'Love Me Crazy' is absolutely stellar, spotlighting Gia's catchy vocals in a wrap of hulking synths and pounding beats. Expect to see this one hit dance floors the world over. 'Love Me Crazy' is Sultan + Shepard's latest poppy, reggae-flavored collaboration with singer-songwriter Gia. The single sees its release on Armada Music and is the first of several extraordinary creations, all to be bundled into a full-blown EP. 'Love Me Crazy' rises as Sultan + Shepard's first release on Armada Music after signing exclusively to the Amsterdam-based record company about a month ago. Before inking a deal with Armada Music, the Canadian studio magicians had already worked with the label to release 'Bring Me Back', a track made in collaboration with singer-songwriter Kreesha Turner and put out in September 2015. 'Bring Me Back' was recently remixed by fellow Canadian artist Guilty Pleasure, which was also released on Armada Music. Sultan + Shepard formed in 2010, after which their solid in-studio output and vibrant on-stage performances gained them international recognition. In the past five years, Sultan + Shepard worked with and/or remixed tunes from far-famed artists such as Kaskade, Dillon Francis, Tiësto, Lady Gaga, Nelly Furtado, Coldplay, Madonna, and more. In 2013, their remix of Bruno Mars' 'Locked Out Of Heaven' earned them a Grammy® nomination. (more...)

BWW Review: BUNNY at the Stratford Festival is a Thing of Beauty
by Lauren Gienow - Sep 18, 2016

Hannah Moscovitch's BUNNY is enjoying its World Premiere at the Stratford Festival's Studio Theatre this season. The performance that I attended was completely sold out, so it appears that audiences are enjoying it too! Directed by Sarah Garton Stanley, with Design by Michael Gianfrancesco, this play will be a unique experience from the get-go. The intimacy of the Studio Theatre has the audience very present and engaged at the beginning, and the beauty and originality of the play maintains that engagement throughout. (more...)

Entitled, I AIN'T NO MIRACLE WORKER, the topic of miracles comes up a few times in the episode—the big ones, the little ones, the 'boring' ones, and the ones we only dream about. BWW Review: ROCK OF AGES is a Runaway Train of Sexiness and Head Banging
by Matt Tamanini - Oct 2, 2016

The cast for TheatreWorks Florida's Central Florida Premiere of the musical ROCK OF AGES is dynamite; easily one of the two or three best collections of talent that I have seen on an Orlando stage in my three-plus seasons of Central Florida theatergoing. Director and choreographer Scott A. Cook has crafted an impressively ambitious production with a top-notch, multi-level set from James F. Beck. The silly show is trivial at best, but that is the exact mark that it aims to hit, and the onstage band, led by music director Shannon Kropf, rocks incredibly hard to some of the most recognizable tunes of the hairband-era. Dr. Lauze Volk Offers Five Tips for Eating Healthier and Stressing Less
by BWW News Desk - Oct 19, 2016

We are entering a stretch of holidays where there's the opportunity to stress out about food. Halloween's candy corn is often followed by a Thanksgiving feast (or two) that ushers in a month's-worth of cookies, cakes and candy. Don't stress. Central Kentucky's Dr. Lauze Volk, FAAP, FACP, says managing your eating this time of year is all about choices. Dr. Volk owns Lexington, Kentucky's Libelle Aesthetics & Weight Loss Center and has been practicing medicine since 1998. Based on common questions from the dozens of patients she sees weekly, Dr. Volk offers five tips to end 2016 on a healthy, stress-free note: 1. Know your goal. Do you want to lower your cholesterol, fit into your favorite jeans by 2017 or simply feel better? Knowing your goal gives perspective and creates accountability. When you reach your goal (or make steps forward), take a moment to pause and celebrate. 2. Don't stress about eating healthy. It's OK to have cheat days. 'I don't diet, but I make healthy choices,' explains Dr. Volk. 'I eat pretty much everything I want, but in smaller portions. For example, I love fries, but I'll only eat a few, not the whole carton. If you go overboard one day, shake it off and approach the next day with a guilt-free stance.' 3. Create a healthy balance by avoiding 'family style.' You are likely to eat more than you would like if you place large portions on your plate. 'My children don't eat healthy, but I offer salads and healthy options so they become familiar with adding them into their lifestyle. I have found baby carrots to be a great vegetable option that kids tend to like,' adds Dr. Volk. 4. Road Warrior? It can be challenging to eat healthy while traveling. Dr. Volk suggests packing bags of snacks that can easily be thrown into your bag or purse. Nuts, apple slices, grapes, string cheese, and nutrition bars travel well and are smart choices. 5. Remember, each day is different. Don't ruin your current day by thinking about yesterday. Dr. Volk suggests, 'You don't need yesterday; today, you will try to be better. Eating health is a constant battle, the process and goals are what you have to keep in mind. Instead of stressing or feeling Guilty, go for a walk!' Dr. Volk opened Libelle Aesthetics & Weight Loss Center in February 2016. The Libelle team helps patients find the appropriate individualized treatment for their aesthetics and weight management needs. The medical spa offers treatments for all skin types ranging from those to treat acne, to microdermabrasion, body sculpting and laser hair reduction. For weight management, Dr. Volk oversees the hCG rapid medical weight loss program that targets problem fat around the abdomen, hips and thighs. The complete list of services is online. About Libelle Aesthetics & Weight Loss Center - The Lexington, KY.-based Dr. Lauze Volk, FAAP, FACP is a Medicine-Pediatrics trained physician with a specialty in Perinatal Medicine. Dr. Volk opened Libelle Aesthetics & Weight Loss Center in early 2016. The medical spa offers a full range of aesthetic treatments as well as weight management programming. BWW Review: OIL, Almeida Theatre, 14 October 2016
by Marianka Swain - Oct 17, 2016

You have to admire the grand scope of Ella Hickson's long-gestating new play, which grapples with urgent ideas about this vital but declining resource amidst audacious magic realist time travel. Stretching from 19th-century Cornwall to a dystopian future, it's DH Lawrence meets Black Mirror, by way of David Hare - anchored by insightful deconstruction of the mother/daughter relationship. If it becomes unwieldy in places, it's still a rich and absorbing piece of work, and an all-too-rare female odyssey. (more...)
