Bay Area audiences will have the opportunity to experience a lost musical theatre treasure when 42nd Street Moon presents the first ever post-Broadway production of a musical collaboration by the composers of My Fair Lady and Brigadoon, CARMELINA. The show has a beautiful score by Alan Jay Lerner and Burton Lane and a saucy book by Lerner and Joseph Stein, whose Fiddler on the Roof remains one of the world's most popular musicals, but CARMELINA nevertheless vanished from sight. The New York Times reports that Joel Grey, who won a Tony Award for his role as the Emcee in the original 1967 Broadway production of CABARET, is set to publish a memoir with Macmillan's Flatiron Books. With the working title MASTER OF CEREMONIES, the book is aiming for a 2015 release. (more...)

The admirable mission of Gigi Naglak and MeghAnn Williams, writer/performers of Chlamydia Dell'Arte: A Sex Ed Burlesque, is to remove some of the awkwardness in open discussions about human sexuality by treating intimate issues with humor.  Their modestly produced show, which just completed a week-long run at Los Kabayitos, is obviously built to travel, coming to Gotham via stints in Philly and DC, and the amiable pair pulls off their mission with endearing enthusiasm. 'The one good thing about dance is that if you are truly yourself, then it's all good,' Ann Reinking said recently in an ABC News interview. This goes especially for the dancers that she teaches these days, who have been diagnosed with Marfans Syndrome. As for those who Reinking choreographs, she seems as inspired by them as they are by her. 'The human spirit is the greatest thing on earth,' she says of her experiences. Broadway Comic Actor Jay Garner Dead At 82

Through rare artifacts from his stage and screen career, objects from his personal collection, and his own photography, MCNY offers a unique look at New York through Grey's eyes as well as a visual retrospective of his career. The exhibition's opening night reception will take place on the evening of Monday, April 11, which is also Grey's 79th birthday. Today, April 11, Broadway legend Joel Grey celebrates his 80th birthday! Grey originated the role of the Master of Ceremonies in the Broadway musical Cabaret in 1966 for which he won the Tony Award. Additional Broadway credits include Come Blow Your Horn (1961), Stop the World - I Want to Get Off (1962), Half a Sixpence (1965),George M! (1968), Goodtime Charley (1975), The Grand Tour (1979), Chicago (1996), and Wicked (2003).
