The National Coalition Against Censorship (NCAC) and eight other organizations committed to defending the freedom to read have written the Virginia Board of Education to oppose a regulation to require schools to warn parents about educational materials containing “sexually explicit” content and to provide an alternative assignment on request.  Essentially, the proposal would require parental consent for all students, including those over 18, to read many valuable works of literature. A.D. Players, one of Houston's oldest and largest resident theater companies, has moved its troupe from the Grace Theater to its new 440-seat venue, the Jeannette and L.M. George Theater (George Theater). The Players completed its 39-year run at the 212-seat Grace Theater in December. To Kill a Mockingbird will be the first show performed at the new $18 million George Theater, just in time for the A.D. Players' 50th anniversary season. The American classic, dramatized by Christopher Sergel, runs February 12 - March 5, and is the first of six notable plays coming to the George Theater in 2017. (more...)
