Rubicon's November/ December HOLIDAY CENTRAL calendar offers a sparkling array of more than 35 shows and events for all ages. The festivities begin with the return of a holiday revue with six Broadway singers and a local children's chorus; followed by a late-night adult comedy presented in a cabaret setting; a poetic reading of wartime love letters; and culminating with an enchanting new musical from the Tony and Olivier Award-winning director of Les Miserables and Nicholas Nickleby and the creators of Jane Eyre and Daddy Long Legs, who will have a five-week residency at Rubicon during the holidays. BWW Reviews: GOGOL ANNEX Bringing Immersive Piece ANTEBELLUM to the New Orleans Fringe Festival

Coming to the New Orleans Fringe Festival this year is a piece that is sure to capture the attention of local theatre supporters. New York City/Toronto based theatre company Gogol ANNEX is bringing their show ANTEBELLUM to Mardi Gras Zone this weekend. Leah Loftin of Gogol ANNEX explained that their theatre company is inspired by a lot of the work that they have done with theatre in Russia, and that their pieces are very experimental and based on historic people and events. "It's very progressive. We have a couple of pieces in development, and ANTEBELLUM is one of them. We work a lot with historical texts and historical characters. Right now we're really interested in these kinds of pockets, specifically history and stories that haven't necessarily been told," says Loftin. (more...)

Gogol ANNEX (NYC/Toronto) is pleased to announce the world premiere of Antebellum, a portrait of the notorious, the famed, and the wicked in pre-Civil War era New Orleans. Antebellum was invited to premiere at the 2013 New Orleans Fringe Festival this November, as part of the curated Fringe-managed venue performance series. The vibrant experimental theatre performance is inspired by the real-life histories of three characters roaming in New Orleans at the time, illuminating the notion of fame and celebrity in the antebellum era. The Thursday, February 27 preview has been designated as a special performance to be included in the Noise Pop Festival lineup. Conceived and created by up-and-coming duo The Bengsons, Hundred Days redefines the concert as well as the musical theater experience. Produced by Z Space, piece by piece productions and Encore Theatre Company, Hundred Days tells the fierce, triumphant story of a young couple who falls in love, only to have their time together cut short by illness. To fully capture the most of their final 100 days together, the couple decides to live the next three months as though they were six decades as they imagine the life they would share together. Redefining the concert as well as the musical theater experience, this project resonates with the Z Space mission to experiment, re-invent and stretch boundaries. Directed by Obie Award winner, Anne Kauffman, Hundred Days presents a touching journey about love, loss, and life, leaving audiences wondering how they might spend their last hundred days. The 47th Festival d'ete de Quebec-Canada's largest outdoor music event and one of North America's most important summer celebrations-will present some 1,000 artists from July 3 to 13 in historically picturesque Quebec City. The Festival will offer more than 300 performances in 10 unique indoor and outdoor venues over the course of 11 days, from intimate blues to after-hours electro shows to rock and pop superstars on North America's biggest outdoor stage-the Bell stage, on the Plains of Abraham.
