Take a Seat Gala to Feature ARTKTR
by BWW News Desk - Sep 6, 2015

Starr PR is pleased to announce the collaboration of Florida-based national mortgage lender Mark Harrison, renowned designer Pepe Villegas, founder of ARTKTR, and featuring artist-symbologist, Lars Walkling, for the annual 'Take a Seat 2015 Event' sponsored by the International Furnishings and Design Association's Florida Chapter. The team will be presenting 'The Fortuna Seat,' which will appear and be available for auction at the RFA Décor (a Rosenbaum Art Company), located at 150 Yamato Road, Boca Raton, FL 33431 on Saturday, October 10, 2015 from 6:00pm to 8:30pm. The Fortuna Seat is a point of departure sculptural art piece. It's heart, point of origin, is inspired by the paper Fortune Teller often created and passed about in our childhood classrooms. The Seat invites us to expand our imagination, to free ourselves, to create and manifest our dreams. Elements of nostalgia for our childhood memories, play, sacred geometry, Buddhism and flight mingle in a refined minimalist harmony. The 'Take a Seat' event brings talented local artisans together to transform chairs or other seats into one-of-a-kind works of art which are then auctioned off with proceeds going to various charities. This year's event will support the KidSanctuary Campus, based locally in West Palm Beach. This incredible organization is committed to providing services to abandoned, abused and neglected children in the community, and to improving the lives of children in foster care through safe homes and brighter futures. Tickets are available online at http://ifdaflorida.com/takeaseat. (more...)

Pacific Northwest Ballet Finishes Season with CARMINA BURANA Tonight
by BWW News Desk - May 29, 2015

SEATTLE, WA – PNB closes its 2014-2015 season with CARMINA BURANA, a dynamic duo of repertory works. Set to Shostakovich's galvanic score, Alexei Ratmansky's crowd-pleasing Concerto DSCH, an “endlessly suspenseful construction [with] passages of breathtaking dance brilliance” (New York Times) dazzles the eyes and ears with its playful, propulsive energy and glimpses of storytelling. In Kent Stowell's primal Carmina Burana, a grand-scale synthesis of dance, chorus, and orchestra, the famous cantata's poems materialize as the entire Company unites song and score for a jubilant communal experience under Carmina scenic designer Ming Cho Lee's colossal golden wheel. The program also includes a musical prelude to shine the spotlight on the world famous PNB Orchestra, currently celebrating its 25th Anniversary.  CARMINA BURANA runs for seven performances only, May 29 through June 7 at Seattle Center's Marion Oliver McCaw Hall. Tickets start at $30 and may be purchased by calling 206.441.2424, in person at the PNB Box Office at 301 Mercer Street, or online at PNB.org. (more...)

BWW Interview: Tito Schipa jr. ed Ermanno Manzetti parlano dell'uscita del DVD di 'Orfeo 9'
by Francesco Vittorino - May 27, 2015

(more...)

BWW Review: SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW Is a Mess; on Stage and Off at the Dr. Phillips Center
by Matt Tamanini - Feb 21, 2015

Let me start this review by saying that I generally like everything that I see; at least to a certain degree. I can usually find some redeeming artistic moment of any production to tide me over when the work as a whole isn't up to par. However in SLAVA'S SNOWSHOW, running through March 1st at the Dr. Phillips Center for the Performing Arts, I found almost no redeeming moments; nearly nothing on which to hang even the slightest artistic appreciation. This 'show' involves a collection of eight clownish-type individuals who walk around the stage for an hour and 45 minutes (including a 15 minute intermission) and do little more than make a mess. In a word, this show is nonsense; and not fun, clownish nonsense, just plan 'this makes no sense' nonsense. (more...)
