 How has my life changed since the night of the Bobby G Awards ceremony? My life has been surreal. I still don't believe I won. Walking around town is a mess of congratulations and word has spread through a front-page newspaper story in my hometown of Durango. It's an indescribable feeling when someone you don't know congratulates you on the street for winning this award. It's also been a mad dash preparing material and forms and packing for a theatre camp to then leave right away for New York. (more...)

Malinda LaVelle's Project Thrust is excited to present Cover Girl, the company's fifth evening-length dance-theater performance. Cover Girl is a one-woman solo show performed by founding member and dancer Emmaly Wiederholt. The piece dissects declarations of fraud, dreams of gratification, and the facades people often put on for themselves and for others. In March 2016, artistic director Malinda LaVelle and dancer Emmaly Wiederholt created Cover Girl during a weeklong artist residency together at The Peñasco Theater in Peñasco, NM.  (more...)

Stage Left Theatre Sets 35th Season

Stage Left Theatre is pleased to announce the programming for its 35th season. The season begins with the world premiere of The Bottle Tree by Beth Kander directed by ensemble member Amy Szerlong. The Bottle Tree was developed through Stage Left's Downstage Left program, at the Ashland New Plays Festival and and has received an Honorable Mention on The Kilroys List for the past two years. Next, in the winter, Stage Left and Cor Theatre present a co-production of What of the Night? by Maria Irene Fornes, directed by Carlos Murillo. This epic meditation on poverty in America was a Pultizer finalist in 1990. Cor Theatre Artistic Director Tosha Fowler says of the partnership, 'With admiration for Stage Left's longevity and the exciting opportunities they provide to artists through their strong commitment to mission, we at Cor are thrilled to announce a collaboration of theatre that is bound to leave you breathless. Combining Stage Left's strength with our fearless aesthetic, Fornes' poetically primal voice, and Carlos Murillo's passionate vision, What of the Night is going to be our biggest leap yet.' As first prize winner, Sirena Huang, receives a cash prize of $30,000 as well as a new violin, crafted by celebrated violin makers Feng Jiang, Jeffrey Phillips, Andrew Ryan and John Young; a Silver-mounted bow from Eric Lane; a coveted Musafia Case donated by Reuning and Son Violins, Inc.; a signed copy of "The American Violin" provided by Tucker Densley, Christopher Germain, Philip J.
