Denver Center for the Performing Arts Broadway announces the 2015 recipients for The Bobby G Awards, a regional awards program for The National High School Musical Theatre Awards. Emma Buchanan and Evatt Salinger, the 2015 Bobby G Award recipients of the Outstanding Performance by an Actor in a Leading Role and Outstanding Performance by an Actress in a Leading Role, will represent Colorado at The National High School Musical Theatre Awards in New York. Both are from Durango High School's production of Les Miserables. Emma Buchanan played Eponine and Evatt Salinger played Jean Valjean. (more...)

As part of Boulder Arts Week, The Pagosa Springs Center for the Arts will present "Misterman." "Misterman" opens at the Dairy Center for the Arts at 2590 Walnut Street in Boulder on March 26, 2015 and runs through April 3, 2015 (No performance March 31.) All performances are at 8:00 p.m., with the exception of the 4:00 p.m. matinee on March 29. There will also be a special Industry Night performance on March 30 at 8:00 p.m. All performances will also be followed by a talkback. This is the final stop before the production relocates to New York for the fall of 2015. Press tickets are available for press night March 27. (more...)

Later tonight dozens of kids from across the country will gather to compete for the ultimate prize- Best Performance by an Actor and Actress at the National High School Musical Theatre Awards, also known as the Jimmy Awards. Let's start from the very beginning with Durango High School's Les Miserables. Our Director, Kristin Winchester, knew that a lot of kids would be auditioning for the musical, so for auditions she had us choose two contrasting songs from the musical. I often play the ingenue in shows, so it was a big change playing Eponine. I worked almost solely with Curtis Salinger, a freshman at the time, who played Marius. His curiosity and enthusiasm for this art really reminded why I love theatre. Our opening night was incredible. There was this buzz in the theatre unmatched by any other performance. I am so humbled be my experience with Les Miserables. It was an unforgettable journey.  (more...)

I truly feel like I have been working on the part of Jean Valjean for more than a year now. Last summer I began voice lessons with Mrs. Jill Holly, largely in anticipation of Les Mis auditions, and it changed everything. It enabled me to worry less about singing and concentrate more on how my acting and singing worked together. I still believe I was not worthy of such a demanding, beautiful role, but I did my best. Annie Baker's charmingly comic off-Broadway hit CIRCLE MIRROR TRANSFORMATION wraps up the Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park's 2014-15 season May 9 through June 7 in the Playhouse's Thompson Shelterhouse Theatre. When a random group of small-town strangers come together for a six-week community center acting class, real-life drama results.
