Adult Fantasy Author A. Wrighton Launches Campaign to Fund New Book, Promotes Indie Reads
by BWW News Desk - Aug 7, 2014

Genre-bending author A. Wrighton challenges bookworms to abandon potato salad and bring more indie books to the public. New adult fantasy author A. Wrighton, known for her genre-bending and witty take on indie authors, has launched an IndieGoGo crowdfunding campaign for her Dragonics & Runics book series to fund the completion of the fourth book and two fan-demanded prequels. IndieGoGo is the world's most-established crowdfunding platform and a popular crowdfunding medium for independent artists and authors looking to fund their visions while making changes in the world around them. 'I saw people jumping on board to fund a wacky concept of potato salad, and I thought, 'Lots of people love potato salad, but everyone loves a good book.' I figured that if people were willing to chip in to get delicious potato salad out there, they'd be willing to give up a few dollars here and there for a good book,' A. Wrighton said. 'The world needs more books - it needs more Dragons - and what better way than through indie authors, like me?' Contributors to the Dragonics & Runics Series #NeedMoreDragons IndieGoGo campaign can earn exclusive merchandise like faction pins, T-shirts, and maps that will make their official debut at Stan Lee's Comikaze 2014. Contributors will also receive public recognition with social media blasts and written dedications in forthcoming books. For more information on the Dragonics & Runics Series #NeedMoreDragons IndieGoGo Campaign, visit: http://bit.ly/NeedMoreDragons Since the July release of Convergence: Dragonics & Runics Part III, A. Wrighton has also thrown the indie author world on its head by releasing an audiobook podcast of the third book for free saying that 'People need to know indie authors' books shouldn't be written off as a fad or badly conceived storytelling.' BWW Reviews: SHE KILLS MONSTERS Slays Audiences
by Alan Katz - Aug 25, 2014

The catchy and clever script more than makes up for the drags during movement pieces, and that dragging might have been as much from my desire to get back to the story and its characters as from anything else. I was giggling throughout, and there were some nice moments of genuine tenderness. Most of the characters were lovable, and those that weren't were eminently hateable, which is just as useful and twice as hard. If you lived through the 1990's, and especially if you were young during that time, you'll recognize these characters instantly, and this production is made to tickle your nostalgia thoroughly (more...)

BWW Recap: OUTLANDER Delivers Witches and Redcoats and Kilts, Oh My!
by Kara McCoy - Aug 12, 2014

Something very exciting is happening on today's small screens. The adult fantasy is becoming an actual thing-and a popular one at that. In a world where 'Game of Thrones' not only exists, but actually thrives on cable TV, Ronald D. Moore's 'Outlander' has all the potential to become another hit, and after the series premiere, I predict it probably will. Which isn't to say that that the new Starz series should be compared with the HBO smash. Both may have originally begun as sweeping epics stretching across thousands of pages of thick-spined behemoths before making it to the screen (the novel Outlander, by Diana Gabaldon, is the first of currently eight books upon which the new series is based), but the similarities end there. 'Game of Thrones' has the vast imaginary land of Westeros. Knights in shining armor. Oh yeah, and Dragons. 'Outlander' has Inverness. Burly Scotsmen in tartan kilts. And no Dragons. So I repeat, this is not 'Game of Thrones,' but, as it turns out, that's just fine. If the series premiere proved anything, it's that 'Outlander' doesn't need to compete with 'Game of Thrones.' It's more than capable of standing on its own two feet. Plus it has time travel. And time travel is pretty cool. (more...)
