Based on the novella The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson

In Jeffrey Hatcher’s retelling of "Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde," transformation takes on a whole new meaning. The classic Robert Louis Stevenson tale still retains the central conflicts of good vs. evil and civilization vs. savagery, but in Hatcher’s version, the menacing Mr. Hyde is played by four actors — including one female. Reviewed as “a dark and disturbing story liberally peppered with humor,” this tale takes a look at the evil that lurks in the hearts of men.

BWW Reviews: Fort Bend Theatre's JEKYLL & HYDE Thrills and Chills
by David Clarke - Nov 5, 2013

Robert Louis Stevenson's novel The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde has long enthralled readers. The exploration of man's internal struggle to suppress his base animal instincts in favor of society's expected propriety in addition to the examination of good and evil simply fascinates audiences. Similarly, JEKYLL & HYDE, a musical adaptation of the novel by Frank Wildhorn and Leslie Bricusse, has been appealing to audiences since its 1990 Houston World Premiere. Currently, Fort Bend Theatre is producing the musical with dazzling pizzazz despite their shoestring budget and the limitations of community theatre. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Vagabond Players Transforms DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE Into a Thoroughly Modern, Thrilling Production
by Giordana Segneri - Mar 2, 2014

I don't believe I ever read Robert Louis Stevenson's Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, and while it's certainly not a children's story, it's the type of classic almost-fable, featuring archetypical characters-much like Dorian Gray or Frankenstein-that permeates the imagination of youth. So I knew, more or less, what would unfold onstage at the Vagabond Players' production of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. But what I didn't expect was such a profound drama; such a sleek, sexy interpretation; or such a lack of camp. And while the story is firmly planted in 1883 London, the production quality is thoroughly modern. (more...)

Vagabond Players' DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE Closes 3/30
by BWW News Desk - Mar 18, 2014

The mesmerizing and provocative production of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde now playing at the Vagabond Theatre runs through March 30. Adapted by Jeffrey Hatcher, and directed by John W. Ford, this is a smart, sexy, tense and suspenseful new take on Stevenson's look at the evil that lurks in the hearts of men--it is definitely not your grandfather's Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Hatcher's direct first-person narrative doesn't focus on the fantastical, but on the human and on the cost of not only isolating and distilling our basest urges--revenge, lust, dominance, survival--but of un-stoppering the vial.
