A+D Announces 'Never Built: Los Angeles' Exhibit of Original Map for Bible Storyland Theme Park
by BWW News Desk - Aug 1, 2013

A+D (Architecture and Design Museum) recently announced that their highly anticipated exhibition, 'Never Built: Los Angeles,' will include the original hand drawn map for the ill-fated So. CA theme park, Bible Storyland. This rare image, realized by Bruce Bushman depicts the layout of the never-built amusement park. Bushman, previously a Disney animator ('Fantasia') and Disneyland ride designer, was the Master Planner for Bible Storyland. The exhibition is on view July 28 -October 13, 2013. Bible Storyland, the 220 acre theme park planned for Rancho Cucamonga in the early 1960's, was conceived by Nat Winecoff, a former V.P. of W.E.D., the group responsible for planning and building Disneyland. Other principles of the project were Jack Haley, the screen and stage actor who starred in 'The Wizard of Oz', and Donald Duncan Sr., inventor and entrepreneur, who manufactured and popularized the Yo-Yo in America. 'Bible Storyland' is also an award winning feature length documentary film by Director Stephanie Hubbard. This very quirky film explores the lost story of the never built park as well as subjects including Disneyland, The Wizard of Oz, Yo-Yos, Hollywood films, and religious doctrine in the late 1950's. There will be a screening of the film during the run of the exhibition. 'Bible Storyland' features Charles Phoenix (retro Pop-Culture Humorist), Rev. Canon Malcolm Boyd (religious leader, writer for The Huffington Post), and Debi Derryberry (prolific voice actor, 'Jimmy Neutron' etc.). This is a journey to a place that may not have existed in person, but certainly lives in one man's heart - a wonderful adventure that the child in all of us - along with the dreamer and treasure hunter - can appreciate.'?- Chris Epting, pop culture expert & author 'Bible Storyland' is a wonderful look at an honest to goodness chapter in California's folk history. It's a real investigative eye-opener and fun to watch!' ?- Huell Howser, producer/host of 'California's Gold' About A+D Architecture and Design Museum, Los Angeles (www.aplusd.org) The A+D Museum is the only museum in Southern California focused exclusively on progressive architecture, design, and urbanism.
