 The Mountain Play Association, the San Francisco Bay Area's most magical outdoor theater experience, will present the timeless classic Disney's Beauty and the Beast directed by Jay Manley for their 104th season. Based on the French fairy tale of the same name by Jeanne-Marie Leprince de Beaumont, Disney's BEAUTY AND THE BEAST tells the story of a monstrous prince and a young woman who fall in love. The Rooftop Productions effort does well by the Gesner and Schulz creation. Director Ted Ballard keeps things simple, just as Schulz presented his characters in pen and ink. Coupled with identifiably perfect costumes by Mandy Ken, and cartoon inspired, primary-colored set pieces designed by Dale Walsh, Ballard's cast is able to bring to life the wit and wisdom of the Peanuts gang. Main Street Theater (MST) closes its 2016 - 2017 MainStage subscription season with the regional premiere of Native Gardens by Karen Zacarias.  "I'm interested in working on scripts that reflect both a world I know and understand, and a world that to me is entirely foreign," shares director Brandon Weinbrenner.  "Native Gardens centers on the comedic combat between two opposite parties with respective poignancies, prejudices, and basic needs.  I love this play and am thrilled to be working on a script by the heartfelt and hilarious Karen Zacarias." The Regrettes Confirm Headlining Tour For Summer 2017

LA-based punk act The Regrettes have announced a summer headlining tour, continuing what has already been a breakout year for the band. The new dates, announced fresh off their TV debut on CONAN and a 17-date spring tour, kick off on June 11 in Phoenix, AZ and include festival stops at this year's Summerfest, Riot Fest, and NXNE Port Lands Music Festival. Cabaret Artists Chad M. Ryan and Brooke M. Haney's first collaborative endeavor, Brooke and Chad Are… Just as Gay as You. (A Queer Cabaret of Chaos and Clarity), premieres this year during Pride Week on Tuesday, June 20th at 6:30 pm at the Duplex. Created by Haney and Ryan from their combined personal "GAY" experiences, the show explores the themes of queerness and identity and the unlikely friendship between a Gay man and a Queer woman, all under their shared love of music and storytelling. Filled with chaotic  humour, truth telling vulnerability and occasional crisp clarity, the evening is sure to be a 'gay ol time.'  The duo has also partnered with Shining Hope for Communities to raise money and build awareness for Margaret's Safe Place, a project of Shining Hope. To that end, a portion of the proceeds from every ticket will go to support Shining Hope. (more...)

This Pulitzer Prize-winning musical follows a nurse stationed on an island during World War II who is in love with a French expatriate plantation owner. She struggles accepting his mixed-raced children and, along with another romance between a U.S. Lieutenant and a young island native, issues of racial prejudice and gender roles are candidly explored. 2017 JMK Award Winners Announced

The Trustees of the JMK Trust are delighted to announce today that the winner of the 20th anniversary James Menzies-Kitchin Young Director Award is Josh Roche. Chosen after the now-legendary JMK selection process from another record-breaking number of applicants, Josh will be directing My Name is Rachel Corrie, the celebrated piece of verbatim theatre created from the writings of Corrie herself and co-edited by the late Alan Rickman and Katherine Viner. His production will be staged in the autumn at the Young Vic, with performance dates announced soon. The runner up this year was Nathan Crossan-Smith with a proposal for a production of Debbie Tucker-Green's random and will receive a £2,000 award. (more...)

On June 9th in Los Angeles, Profiles in History will auction off 50 rare Disney theme park cast member attraction costumes. It is the largestcollection to ever be offered at auction. Highlights include, a five piece Haunted Mansion gothic style costume, pictured left, and a four piece, Haunted Mansion, gothic style maid costume, each is estimated to sell for $900 - $1,500. Costumes from almost every Disney attraction are included like, Pirates of the Caribbean, Hall of Presidents, Tomorrowland, Animal Kingdom and they are each estimated to sell in the range of $100 - $800.
