Wilco Announces New Tour Dates, Solid Sound lineup

Wilco has announced an early summer tour in the lead up to the band's own Solid Sound Festival, which takes place at MASS MoCA in North Adams, MA on June 23-25. Newly announced dates include concerts in Rochester Hills, MI, Pittsburgh, Louisville, KY, Indianapolis, Rockford, IL and Milwaukee. The band also headlines Eaux Claires on June 17. Tickets for upcoming shows are on sale Friday via wilcoworld.net. Three-day passes for Wilco's Solid Sound Festival are also available now via solidsoundfestival.com. (more...)

Also on the repertoire is Pierre Boulez's arrangement of Maurice Ravel's “Frontispice,” and the famed Ravel orchestration of Modest Mussorgsky's “Pictures at an Exhibition,” featuring a rare opportunity to hear the original tenor tuba owned by Ravel himself played during the “Bydlo” movement. People's Light Launches Crowdfunding Campaign around New Play About Commercial Sexual Exploitation

In March 2017, People's Light launches a month-long crowdfunding campaign around the world premiere production of Project Dawn, a vital new play inspired by Project Dawn Court in Philadelphia, a real-life innovative court program designed to transform the lives of women trapped within the commercial sex industry. The $7,500 campaign goal will underwrite theatre tickets for targeted communities who could benefit from seeing the play, but who would not otherwise attend, including: social workers, teachers, first responders, parole officers, law enforcement, and students training in these fields. Partial and complete ticket subsidies for these key groups will expand the production's reach, as well as foster empathy and understanding among those who serve our most vulnerable populations. Bad Habit Productions is about to drop the final curtain after ten years of delivering award-winning theater, but they are not taking the easy way out. Director Dawn M. Simmons and an ensemble of eight actors make sense of Tom Stoppard's 1968 comedy whodunnit, THE REAL INSPECTOR HOUND, even as they squeeze very bit of theatrical nonsense from this old chestnut. The troupe plays well together and looks like they're taking their roles seriously, despite their characters saying and doing ridiculous things. (more...)

Guest conductor Christian Reif will lead Berkeley Symphony in Shostakovich's evening-long, epic Symphony No. 13, “Babi Yar,” on Thursday, May 4 at 8 pm at Zellerbach Hall. The Orchestra is joined for the Berkeley Symphony's season finale performance by bass Denis Sedov and a men's chorus comprised of alumni of the UC Berkeley Chamber Chorus, the Pacific Boychoir Academy, and members of the St. John of San Francisco Russian Orthodox Chorale, led by chorusmaster Marika Kuzma.
