Fahey has been cast in the role of 'Uncle Eddie Cruickshank', the man who raised The Gecko Brothers after their father died in a fire; he runs a TV/appliance repair shop in Houston, Texas - but it's really a cover. BWW Reviews: Gelsey Kirkland Ballet Presents Harlequinade and Cavalry HaltBWW Reviews: Gelsey Kirkland Ballet Presents Harlequinade and Cavalry Halt
by Rose Marija - Mar 31, 2015

On March 27 & 28, 2015, Co-Artistic Directors, Gelsey Kirkland and Michael Chernov presented, at Peter Norton Symphony Space, a double bill of Marius Petipa's ballets of another era, well chosen for their young company, a large number of whom are students at the Gelsey Kirkland Academy of Classical Ballet. Harlequinade, choreographed in 1900, to the music of Riccardo Drigo, is a classic comedy based on the characters of Commedia Dell'Arte. Cavalry Halt, created in 1896, to the music of Johann Armsheimer and Johann Strauss, is rarely performed today. I had never seen it. (more...)

by Christi Esterle - Mar 30, 2015

Her name was Lee Joseph. She passed away in 2013 at the age of 96, after what was in every sense of the term a full life. She hung around with the sort of people who got called before the HUAC, was married for a time to Arthur Herzog, Jr. (who co-wrote the Billie Holliday standard 'God Bless the Child'), and was an activist up through the later days of her life, when she marched in Occupy Wall Street protests. And she served as the basis for Vera, the punchy nonagenarian at the center of her granddaughter Amy Herzog's play 4000 Miles, now in its Colorado debut at the Fine Arts Center. (more...)

by Andrew Martin - Mar 29, 2015

From the Oscars to the Tonys, the Grammys to Emmys, awards ceremonies are always a hit-or-miss situation. Either the event is absolutely excellent or ends with spectators saying, 'Well, they'll do a better job with it next year.' The 2015 MAC Awards, presented by the Manhattan Association of Cabarets & Clubs, and held once again this year at BB King's on West 42nd Street, absolutely fell into the former category. It was a splendid affair (albeit it's usual 3-plus hours) that was expertly directed by MAC President Lennie Watts. (more...)

In playwright Kimber Lee's hushed yet absorbing sushi-making drama TOKYO FISH STORY---now having its World Premiere production at Costa Mesa's Tony Award-winning South Coast Repertory through March 29---centuries of painstaking tradition are... well, rapidly showing its age against the progress of modern times. Can both harmoniously co-exist?
