BWW Reviews: COLOSSAL Blurs the Line Between Sport and ArtBWW Reviews: COLOSSAL Blurs the Line Between Sport and Art
by Nancy Grossman - Jul 22, 2015

Three summers ago, Company One Theatre converted the Roberts Studio Theatre into an authentic wrestling arena for its acclaimed production of The Elaborate Entrance of Chad Deity, Kristoffer Diaz's satire of the faux violence and bright lights of the show biz world of professional wrestling. C1's season 16 concludes with the very real brutality of college football simulated on an astroturf stage in Colossal, a National New Play Network Rolling World Premiere by Andrew Hinderaker. Accompanied by the sights and sounds of an actual game, the audience is immersed in a 'Friday Night Lights' experience of pounding drumbeats, crunching body contact, and crushing emotional sequences. Blending the physicality of the sport with the artistry of dance blurs the line between the two seemingly disparate activities, resulting in a compelling approach to telling a powerful story. Kellan Publishing will be releasing Billy Pepitone's latest novel, the crime drama 'Lake of Fire,' on August 20th, 2015. 'Lake of Fire' follows the lives of two men on a Collision course. Finally, I realized that what they were lacking was one another, and Locke and Simeone were able to bring each other to life.' -Billy Pepitone. Billy Pepitone is a retired New York City Police Officer, having served twenty years with the nation's largest local law enforcement agency. He was a first responder to numerous high profile incidents, including both attacks on the World Trade Center. Upon his retirement he teamed with his brother Joseph, a two time Emmy Award winning writer and producer, on many highly acclaimed projects, publishing several novels and award winning independent films. ROOF-TOP JOY Set for The New City's Dream Up FestivalROOF-TOP JOY Set for The New City's Dream Up Festival
by BWW News Desk - Aug 5, 2015

'Roof-Top Joy' is a one-act comedic drama written by Andrea Fulton and directed by Jared Reinmuth about the way past and present can collide to jeopardize the future. Witiswood and Jah-niece moved on up to a new luxury high rise condo in downtown Brooklyn and had no idea their demons could come to haunt them. Will this Collision between past and present result in a joyful noise or will all hell break loose and destroy their little slice of heaven? The entire play takes place in various locations in the condo and we get to know characters like strong-willed and suspicious doorman Uncle Thomas and mysterious Allsgood Breckenridge, who is reportedly the son of the building's owner. Not everyone is what they seem and our job is to peel away the persona each has carefully constructed. When Witiswood and Allsgood become the keepers of one another's true identities, they are forced to help each other in the fear of their secret pasts being unveiled. However, the truth can only be concealed for so long. The play will have its world premiere September 13 to 20 in Theater for the New City's 2015 Dream Up Festival. (more...)

The Plaids have been given a final chance from the afterlife for musical glory. (more...)
