BWW Review: ONCE Settles in Nicely at the Denver Center
by Felicia Tassone - May 26, 2016

Once is definitely not your typical Broadway musical. It does not implement nor does it require the razzle dazzle that is usually typical of musical theatre. Instead there is a subtle intimacy and ease to the storytelling. From the moment you enter the theatre, you are transported to another place, a Dublin bar to be exact. The show uses creative staging as the audience is able to traverse the stage to buy a drink at the bar and are then surrounded by the actors/musicians as they jam out to some Irish folk music. YOU CAN'T KISS A MOVIE Set for The Metropolitan Room, 6/16
by BWW News Desk - May 24, 2016

An innovative reimagining of film techniques for live performance, You Can't Kiss a Movie features performer Shelley Farmer, whose passionate (obsessive?) love of French movies from the 1960s New Wave is the seed for an original story about an ill-fated love affair, told through the songs and dialogue of those movies. With a spirit of youthful immediacy inspired by the films themselves, this bilingual cabaret playfully tweaks the films' themes and gender roles while continuing their investigation into the costs and virtues of emotional engagement in art and life. You Can't Kiss a Movie is an exuberant, affecting show for both film buffs and newcomers. (more...)

BWW Dance Review: AMANDA SELWYN DANCE THEATRE Debuts Second Year of FOOTPRINTS Modern Dance Festival
by Christina Pandolfi - May 23, 2016

Amanda Selwyn Dance Theatre premiered the second edition of its modern dance festival May 19, 2016 at the Marjorie S. Deane Little Theater on West 64th Street in Manhattan. Comprised of six distinct pieces from different choreographers, the night was a tribute to the creativity of movement and how it collectively inspires us all. But the way in which these pieces were curated left something to be desired. The flow felt disjointed; choreographic styles were often polarizing from one piece to the next, making the audience consider only what was directly in front of them without further context or the continuation of any theme.
