Musical Theater Prodigy Joshlyn Camille Lomax to be Honored as 'Rising Star'

The Chicago Department of Cultural Affairs and Special Events (DCASE) and Allstate Insurance Company announced today that they will present the second 'Rising Star' youth award to Joshlyn Camille Lomax during the third-annual Fifth Star Awards on Wednesday, September 14 at 7pm-at the Jay Pritzker Pavilion in Millennium Park. The award celebrates the achievements of Chicago youth demonstrating promise and career aspirations in the arts. Lomax, a student at CPS' Chicago Academy for the Arts (ChiArts), was selected from a pool of nominees submitted by the public and several Chicago high school arts programs. (more...)

Combining choreography, improvisation, text, live podcasting, and sketch comedy, the work explores the role of intimacy in the creative process and in performance. The cute and the aggressive, the familiar and unknown, the popular and the underrated-all come into play in dynamic, surprising, and humorous ways, complete with commercial breaks and apple pie. Today, theatre students of Gahanna Lincoln High School in Columbus, Ohio (with Director Cynthia Macioce) had a rare treat when members of the touring company of WICKED visited them to offer an informative talkback on the makings of a touring production. The talkback was open to members of Gahanna Lincoln High School's International Thespian Society, whose Vice President, Camille Mancuso, orchestrated the event based on her previous professional experience on tour and on Broadway. ISA BRIONES was born Isabella Camille Briones in London, England. Her parents, Jon Jon Briones and Megan Johnson Briones are both actors and singers, and her younger brother, Teo Briones is also an actor. She began modeling in New York at the age of 3, and started acting when her family moved to Los Angeles in 2006. She is best known for her role in the film Takers, playing Matt Dillon's daughter. Isa is entering her senior year of high school, and is excited to be making her professional theater debut in this production of Next to Normal. School theater credits include: Velma in Hairspray, Brooke in Legally Blonde and Abigail in The Crucible. TV and film: "Takers," "Cutthroat", "Lonely Boy".  (more...)
