Based on the play I Am a Camera by John Van Druten

Based on stories by Christopher Isherwood

The infamous Kit Kat Klub has undergone a new makeover. Grab a VIP seat and become a part of the action. Ö A female master of ceremonies hosts a decadent and sensual interpretation of CABARET.

Based on the original concept and script, this staged version brings forth the turmoil of love, trust, denial and desire embodied in Sally Bowles as well as the young and restless curiosity of a defiant American named Cliff.

From the producer that brought you the smash hit, Elevator, and the director of Into the Woods and Pippin.

Set against the backdrop of pre-World War II, the show takes place inside a provocative, yet forbidden Kit Kat Klub, where the relationship between cabaret performer Sally Bowles and the handsome American Cliff Bradshaw flourishes only to be confronted by social taboos and the imminent rise of the Nazi Party.

Overseeing all of the action in CABARET is the Master of Ceremonies (MC) of the Kit Kat Klub, who serves as a cultural metaphor and the upbeat catalyst to the ever-changing climate of the show.

Reflecting the moods and guiding the minds of the characters on stage, the MC takes pleasure in reminding the audience how easily society falls prey to the electrifying chaos that surrounds them. It is best to leave all inhibitions outside.

BWW Review: SANTALAND DIARIES at ZACH Theatre
by Joni Lorraine - Dec 6, 2016

ZACH's A Christmas Carol isn't the only game in town, ya know? Before Dave Steakley masterminded the mashup of the classic Dickens tale with contemporary hit music there was another staple of the Austin holiday theatre scene, ok? Martin Burke has been doling out shade on the holiday madness by way of David Sedaris' classic SANTALAND DIARIES since William Jefferson Clinton was in office. And there's practically no crying and sentiment and warm fuzzy Christmas cheer to be found in it, thank GOODNESS, fer CRYINOUTLOUD! (more...)

Cabaret. It's 1931 in Germany, a country of unrest. We find ourselves at the Kit Kat Klub, a seedy Cabaret, a place of decadence and emotional abandonment. Hanging over the entire scene is the aura of the growth of the Nazi party and the impending reign of terror. (more...)

BWW Review: Singer DENNIS MCNEIL Performs a Mellow CHRISTMAS CABARET in Hermosa Beach
by Don Grigware - Dec 6, 2016

On Sunday December 4 Irish tenor Dennis McNeil presented The Christmas Show at The Lounge of The Comedy and Magic Club in Hermosa Beach to an enthusiastic sellout crowd. This marked his 44th appearance in this venue, so he must be doing something right. He has a multitude of fans who keep coming back five or six times a year. A former opera singer, McNeil has sung for Presidents and in concert venues, including stadiums, around the world. He can adapt himself to any venue, and of course, in a room of this size that accommodates 100, he gets the chance to be up close, warm and personal and like most Irishmen, tell stories, some funny and a few... deliciously off-color. Throughout the 90-minute set, McNeil held his audience spellbound with his magnificent vocal range, a slew of Christmas songs - both pop and religious - and candid observations about the commercialism of Christmas. He was accompanied by skilled musical director Ed Martel, with whom he has had a long and fruitful association. (more...)

BWW Review: Showtunes' LEAP OF FAITH Spotlights Good Voices in a Not So Good Show
by Jay Irwin - Dec 5, 2016

Just a few days ago I reviewed a show that, if you remember, I felt had one major downfall; that the newer songs bringing it from the film version to the stage version had lyrics written by Glenn Slater. Now, just a few blocks from that other production, Showtunes puts up a concert of another film to stage adaptation with all of the lyrics written by Glenn Slater and music from Alan Menken. And while there were certainly some wonderful voices in the concert it just proves one thing that Showtunes needs to pay attention to, not all shows need a revival. (more...)
