The Old Globe today announced the full cast and creative team for Marco Ramirez's ('Orange is the New Black,' 'Sons of Anarchy') wildly theatrical new play The Royale, directed by two-time Obie Award-winning and Drama Desk Award-nominated Rachel Chavkin. Founding Artistic Director of New York's the TEAM, Chavkin most recently won accolades for Natasha, Pierre and the Great Comet of 1812 (The New York Times, Time Out New York, and New York Post Critics's Picks, and Top Ten of 2012 and 2013). The Royale will run October 4 to November 2 in the Sheryl and Harvey White Theatre, part of the Conrad Prebys Theatre Center. Preview performances run October 4 - 8. As the weather gets crisper and the nights get longer, the Utah Shakespeare Festival is gearing up for its fall season. The outrageous farce, Boeing Boeing, by Marc Camoletti opens September 17, and Steven Dietz's adaptation of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle's Sherlock Holmes: The Final Adventure opens September 18. Shakespeare's Twelfth Night, which opened in June, bridges the gap between summer and fall. All three shows will run in repertory in the Randall L. Jones Theatre until October 18. (more...)

This weekend the 38th annual Shakespeare Competition, hosted by the Utah Shakespeare Festival and Southern Utah University, gave out dozens of awards and scholarships to drama, dance and music students. The competition is the largest scholastic Shakespeare competition in the country, and this was a record-breaking year with over 3,000 students from 108 schools. Students came from junior high and high schools in Utah, Nevada, Arizona, Colorado, Wisconsin, and California. (more...)
