ACT Theatre closes out its 2014 Mainstage season with Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike, winner of the 2013 Tony Award for Best Play. The hilarious Broadway blockbuster from three-time Obie Award-winner Christopher Durang begins previews October 17 and is directed by ACT Theatre artistic director Kurt Beattie. An all-star cast of Seattle favorites including Pamela Reed (ACT's Other Desert Cities; Seattle Rep's Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf; TV & Film Parks and Recreation, Kindergarten Cop), R. Wareham are thrilled to present the second show of their 2014-2015 season, THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING by Joan Didion and directed by Jenny Sullivan (Steel Magnolias). 'To have Linda Purl on our stage with one of the more powerful pieces of theatre I have come across is just a triumph that our audiences and subscribers are going to treasure,' offers Wood. 'Jenny Sullivan is quite simply one of our best theatre directors working today and to have her bring her magic touch to the powerful words of Joan Didion is simply a dream realized,' adds Wareham. THE YEAR OF MAGICAL THINKING will begin previews on Wednesday, October 8 and will open on Saturday, October 11 at 7:30pm and run through Sunday, November 2, 2014 at the Laguna Playhouse, 606 Laguna Canyon Road in Laguna Beach. TACT/The Actors Company Theatre, the critically-acclaimed and Drama Desk nominated Off-Broadway company 'dedicated to presenting neglected or rarely produced plays of literary merit,' presents the first New York revival in 30 years of The Killing of Sister George, the controversial 1964 play by Frank Marcus. The first production of the company's 22nd Season will be directed by TACT Company Member Drew Barr, who directed the company's Fall 2012 production of Brian Friel's Lovers. Performances begin at Theatre Row's Beckett Theatre (410 West 42nd Street - between 9th & 10th Avenues) tonight, September 23, 2014. Opening night is set for Tuesday, October 7 at 7:30pm. Lincoln Center Theater has announced two new upcoming productions: SHOWS FOR DAYS, a new play by Douglas Carter Beane, to be directed by Jerry Zaks; and the LCT3 production of PRELUDES, a new musical by Dave Malloy, to be directed by Rachel Chavkin. SHOWS FOR DAYS, marks the return of both playwright Douglas Carter Beane (The Nance) and director Jerry Zaks (The House of Blue Leaves, Anything Goes, Six Degrees of Separation) to Lincoln Center Theater, will begin previews Thursday, June 4 and open on Monday, June 29 at the Mitzi E. What's really needed here is a good stiff drink, but unfortunately, they have the worst bartender in all of London. And this is just the beginning of the hijinks in Nell Benjamin's The Explorers Club, a co-production with WaterTower Theatre, beginning its 6-week Stage West run today, November 28. An epic tale of friendship set against the backdrop of the sweeping American West, Abundance will be directed by TACT Co-Artistic Director Jenn Thompson, who directed last season's production of William Inge's Natural Affection. Franaleo Productions will present the Off-Broadway premiere of Samuel J. Bernstein and Marguerite Krupp's Olympics Über Alles, beginning a limited engagement tomorrow, Wednesday August 27th at St. Luke's Theater (308 West 46th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues). Debra Whitfield directs a cast that features Jim DiMunno Tim Dowd, Michael Engberg, Amy Handra, Darrell Purcell, Joshua Quat, Stewart A. Schneck, and Jenn Susi. This limited run continues through September 21st only. Olympics Über Alles will have scenic and lighting design by Duane Pagano with costume design by Janice O'Donnell and sound and projections design by Paul Bourgeois.
