On Site Opera has garnered considerable acclaim for its immersive, site-specific productions since stage director Eric Einhorn founded it just three years ago. This summer, the company kicks off its most ambitious undertaking to date:The Figaro Project. On Site Opera will offer lesser-known operatic adaptations of French playwright Pierre-Augustin Caron de Beaumarchais' (1732-1799) famed trilogy of Figaro plays: The Barber of Seville (1775), The Marriage of Figaro (1784) and The Guilty Mother(1792). The Figaro Project will reacquaint audiences with their favorite Beaumarchais' characters in new and unexpected ways in non-traditional venues across New York City. (more...)

Wallis Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts ('The Wallis') presents SFJAZZ Collective: The Music of Joe Henderson & Original Compositions for one performance only, April 19, 2015 at 7:00 pm, in the Bram Goldsmith Theater. During the concert, SFJAZZ Collective's debut at The Wallis, the group will pay tribute to legendary saxophonist and composer Joe Henderson with new arrangements of his classic pieces from his early Blue Note years through his resurgence on Verve Records in the 1990s, in addition to performing new, original pieces. On March 10, the group released SFJAZZ Collective: Music of Joe Henderson and New Compositions, Live at SFJAZZ Center, recorded last October at the group's home base - the SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco. A selection of this recording was broadcast recently on NPR's Jazz Night in America. (more...)

The Chamber Music Society of Detroit presents an all-star cast of four distinguished musicians – violinist Daniel Hope, violist Paul Newbauer, cellist David Finckel and pianist Wu Han – coming together for an evening of piano quartets Saturday, April 11 at 8 PM. The concert is part of a twelve-concert U.S. tour featuring artist members of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center and includes quartets by three Romantic masters, Gustav Mahler, Robert Schumann and Johannes Brahms. The evening also includes a pre-concert recital by duo pianists Yuki and Tomoko Mack beginning at 6:45 PM which is open to ticket-holders free of charge. Winner of the Barclays Stage Award for Best Show for Children and Young People, LIFEBOAT by Nicola McCartney is a true story of courage, survival and enduring friendship set during World War II. In September 1940, a ship, the City of Benares, set sail from Liverpool for Canada. Onboard were 90 evacuees trying to escape the relentless bombing and dangers of war-torn Britain. Four days into its journey, the ship was torpedoed and sank. Only eleven of the evacuees survived, including two fifteen-year-old girls, Bess Walder (Ashley Smith) and Beth Cummings (Hannah Donaldson) who spent 19 terrifying hours in the water on an upturned lifeboat during a harsh, relentless storm. Through their will to survive in spite of their dire situation, they endured to tell their story so the bitter consequences of World War II on so many innocent, young children will never be forgotten.
