BWW Review: Clandestine's CARRIE THE MUSICAL is Ambitious DisappointmentBWW Review: Clandestine's CARRIE THE MUSICAL is Ambitious Disappointment
by Matt Tamanini - Aug 27, 2015

There is something noble about earnestly attempting to do good, despite the overwhelming evidence that what you are embarking upon is almost certainly doomed to disappoint. Not only is that sentiment at the center of CARRIE THE MUSICAL, which Clandestine Arts is premiering in Central Florida through August 30th at the ME Theatre, but it also accurately describes the undertaking of performing this infamous piece of musical theatre history. Like Carrie's senior prom, unless everything goes unbelievably perfectly, the musical is likely going to be a substantial let-down. While Clandestine has put together an impressively talented group of young performers, especially in the show's four leads, the uneven and sloppy production undermines whatever power the piece might otherwise have had. BWW Review: INDIAN INK from STC and Pratidhwani Blends History and HeartBWW Review: INDIAN INK from STC and Pratidhwani Blends History and Heart
by Jay Irwin - Aug 24, 2015

When you go to see a Tom Stoppard play such as "Indian Ink", currently playing at Center Theatre from Sound Theatre Company and Pratidhwani, you can expect to be immersed in whatever subject Stoppard has chosen, whether that be literature, history, math, music or landscape architecture, along with a fascinating interpersonal story with the characters. And while I usually appreciate the interpersonal stories of his plays, his chosen subject of interest is usually lost on me (mostly due to the feeling that you need to take a Masters class in whatever the subject is before you see the play to totally get it). Stoppard's "Indian Ink" is no exception although the love story at its heart certainly outweighed any gaps of historical knowledge I felt. (more...)

BWW Review: TRAILER PARK Trashes Gleefully!BWW Review: TRAILER PARK Trashes Gleefully!
by John James DeWitt - Aug 19, 2015

The final installment of STAGEright's "Find Your Light" season is the uproarious white-trash lampoon, THE GREAT AMERICAN TRAILER PARK MUSICAL, by Betsy Kelso and David Nehls. Concerning the rather sordid lives of several denizens inhabiting a southern Florida trailer park, the show touches on as many hilarious stereotypes as it can cram into its 95-minute length. From double-wide mobile homes and mullet haircuts to stripper bars and pole dancing, it's all there… about the only thing missing was pimento cheese on toasted Wonder bread. Featuring an appealing cast under the direction of Jay D. Irwin and with music direction by Josh Zimmerman, the show is a toe-tapping, crowd-pleasing diversion for a sultry August evening. (more...)
