Cabaret Artist, Solo Performer and Stand Up Comic, D'yan Forest's new solo show, A Broad Abroad! will have its New York City Premiere at the 10th Annual FRIGID Festival on February 16th. The critically acclaimed solo show, which was written by D'yan Forest and Erik Kornfeld, premiered at The Orlando Fringe Festival last May. D'yan Forest performs her unique style of stand up, regularly at the Gotham Comedy Club in NYC. She also performs her solo shows in New York, throughout the US and in Paris. Renowned guitarist Gary Lucas (of Captain Beefheart fame) and Broadway star Sarah Stiles (Tony nominee for Hand to God) present a delightful and loving tribute to the swinging soundtracks of New York animation genius Max Fleischer and his surreal Betty Boop and Popeye cartoons of the 1930s. The live vocal-and-guitar performance, on Sunday, February 7, at 2:00 p.m. at Museum of the Moving Image, will also feature screenings of six great Fleischer cartoons, almost all in 35mm prints from the UCLA Film & TV Archive: Ain't She Sweet, Koko's Earth Control, Swing You Sinners!, Snow White, Betty Boop for President, and Popeye the Sailor. Golden Thread Productions, the first American theatre company to focus on the Middle East, celebrates its 20th anniversary, and has announced a season of new plays and special events that celebrates its legacy and showcases the company's groundbreaking vision for the future. The season includes the West Coast premiere of Our Enemies: Lively Scenes of Love and Combat by award-winning playwright Yussef El Guindi, the most produced writer in Golden Thread history (directed by Founding Artistic Director Torange Yeghiazarian, October 28-November 20, 2016), and the world premiere of The Most Dangerous Highway in the World by Kevin Artigue, the first playwright of non-Middle Eastern descent produced on the company's mainstage (directed by Director of Marketing and New Plays Evren Odcikin, May 5-29, 2016). Both plays will be presented at the Thick House in San Francisco. New Threads staged reading series returns in June and July of 2016, introducing four singular voices to the Bay Area: Tariq Hamami, Ken Kaissar, Hannah Khalil, and Novid Parsi. Golden Thread's annual celebration of International Women's Day, What Do the Women Say?, returns on March 12, 2016 to the La Peña Cultural Center. This year's program features four Bay Area women artists who have built a stronger Middle Eastern community through their art: Taraneh Hemami, Nabila Mango, Sharlyn Sawyer, and Betty Shamieh, and will include a musical performance by Aswat Women's Choir. Golden Thread Fairytale Players continues to tour Bay Area schools and libraries throughout the year, presenting dynamic and colorful plays for all ages inspired by Middle Eastern folktales. Cabrillo Music Theatre proudly announces the 2016-2017 season of shows.   Cabrillo's High-Flying Season features three Cabrillo debuts and one classic favorite not seen in nearly 15 years.  All of Cabrillo's productions are locally produced, auditioned and rehearsed in Southern California, and performed exclusively at the Bank of America Performing Arts Center at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza. On Monday, February 1st, Theater People Podcast welcomes SCHOOL OF ROCK star Alex Brightman. Before being cast in the leading role in the new Andrew Lloyd Webber musical, Brightman made his Broadway debut as an understudy in GLORY DAYS (the show that infamously closed on its opening night). He went on to replace in the role of  Boq in the Broadway company of WICKED, Michael Wormwood in the Broadway company of MATILDA, and then joined the original Broadway company of BIG FISH. (more...)

The 2016 national tour of Terence Rattigan's FLARE PATH, directed by Justin Audibert, opened on 27 January at the Connaught Theatre in Worthing. Daniel Fraser plays Teddy Graham and Audrey Palmer plasy Mrs Oakes.  Daniel played Gregory Cromwell in the acclaimed RSC productions of Wolf Hall and Bring Up the Bodies in Stratford, London and on Broadway.  He also appeared in Chariots of Fire at Hampstead Theatre and in the West End and starred in the Sci-Fi films Frequencies and Lab Rats and the thriller Scar Tissue.  Check out a first look below!
