Havana Film Festival NY (HFFNY) announces two new and hot releases coming from Chile and Uruguay to join the competition for the Havana Star Prize: Vida de Familia (Family Life), a 2017 Chilean drama directed by Alicia Scherson and Cristian Jimenez, which premiered in the World Cinema Dramatic Competition section of the 2017 Sundance Film Festival and El Candidato (The Candidate) by renown Uruguayan actor Daniel Hendler, who recently won Best Director at the Miami International Film Festival. New McCree Theatre Presents a Gala Reception & World Premiere Performance of A NEEDLE IN A HAYSTACK: THE STORY OF THE VELVELETTES

The Board of Directors and Friends of the New McCree Theatre are presenting a Gala Reception and World Premiere Performance of the original musical, A Needle in a Haystack: the Story of the Velvelettes, a tribute to Motown's longest lasting girl group that still performs with all of its original members today. The event will take place at the New McCree Theatre, 2040 W. Carpenter Road, Flint, on Saturday, April 29, 2017. A red carpet reception, with refreshments, will begin at 5:30 p.m. while curtain for the premiere performance of the musical is at 7:00 p.m. Organizers are requesting a $50.00 donation from each patron. Funds will be utilized to enable the New McCree Theatre to carry on its plethora of performing arts activities on behalf of the underserved residents of north Flint for the remainder of the program year. Lucky Penny 10 Minute Play Festival Winners Announced

Lucky Penny Productions is pleased to announce the 'Audience Choice Awards' for its '8 X 10 Kids Rule' short play festival.  Lucky Penny judges picked 8 ten-minute plays out of over 150 submitted from around the country and produced them live on stage.  Audience members then voted on their favorites at the end of each show.  This year's theme was 'Kids' and each script had to have at least one youngster featured in the cast.  At the end of each play's eleven performances, the audience votes were counted. Just as death knells and obituaries are beginning to appear in the press for cabaret in Los Angeles (usually by inexperienced journalists in their 20s who seem to think that entertainment is restricted to their computers, IPads and IPhones), proof to the contrary arrives in the form of one Charles Busch in "THAT GIRL/ THAT BOY" at Rockwell stage and table on March 13th and 14th .
