Beauties 1914

The National Music & Global Culture Society will present the rising Norwegian star, violinist Eldbørg Hemsing and internationally noted Azerbaijani pianist Nargiz Aliyarova in recital at the Bruno Walter Auditorium at the New York Public Library for the Performing Arts at Lincoln Center (111 Amsterdam Ave, New York, NY 10023) on Wednesday evening, April 24, 2019 at 7 pm. The program-entitled 'From East to West'-will focus on solo and chamber works from both Norway and Azerbaijan.

In 1914, Long Beach leaders hired two bounty hunters to entrap gay men so the city could essentially blackmail and remove them with fines and public humiliation. Most men paid the fine and quietly slipped out of town. One man - a banker - committed suicide and two others sued the city. Playwright Tom Jacobson turned that dark chapter in the city's history into a play entitled The Twentieth Century Way.

Author Jan Goddard-Finegold demonstrates her natural gift to weave words with 'The Bee in the Bottle.' An accessible and utterly remarkable poetry compilation, it touches on many a diverse themes, including the mysteries of existence, consciousness, memory, illness and death, feelings of loss and disappointment, and the wonders and beauties of life.
