Philadelphia Theatre Company Gets $2.5M Grant, Plus Plan for Reorganization

Just over a year ago, Philadelphia Theatre Company's South Broad Street home was foreclosed on by the bank. Now according to Newsworks, one of the theatre's major benefactors, Suzanne Roberts, has just given a $2.5 million grant under the condition of company reorganization, which will be headed by the Kennedy Center's Michael Kaiser. Roberts's spokesperson Kevin Feeley told Newsworks: 'Just by the fact that he's joined us, he's implied - he's not implied, he's told us - he thinks there's something here to work with. We think there's a good chance for the theater going forward.' (more...)

South Camden Theatre Company's Annual Fundraiser, Featuring Performance of HUGHIE to be Held 9/7

South Camden Theatre Company, a nonprofit professional theatre company located in Camden, New Jersey announces its annual fundraising event as it celebrates it's upcoming 10th season. For one day only on Sunday, September 7 at 2p.m 2014, the fundraiser will feature HUGHIE a short two-character play set in 1920's New York City. Written by Eugene O'Neill and directed by producing artistic director Joseph M. Paprzycki, the play stars Barrymore Award Winner William Rahill and Eric Pedersen. Also featured during the fundraiser are musical performances by Philadelphia jazz vocalist Miss Justine Keeys to immerse the audience in the 1920's theme of the afternoon event. The Bryn Mawr College Performing Arts Series plays, acts and dances a happy 450th birthday to William Shakespeare in a Bard's Birthday Bash with Scenes, Sonnets, Music and Dance with Members of Piffaro and Guests on Saturday, October 4 at 8:30 p.m. at Thomas Great Hall. Piffaro, playing reconstructions of Renaissance instruments such as shawms, dulcians, sackbuts, recorders, krumhorns, bagpipes, lutes, guitars, harps and a variety of percussion, perform music of Shakespeare's time including old English ballads, instrumental fantasies and country dances, some with direct connections to his plays. The program will weave in scenes from some of Shakespeare's most popular plays directed by Barrymore Award-winning director James J. Christy and performed by leading local actors. Atlantic Theater Company presents the world premiere production of Stephen Adly Guirgis' play BETWEEN RIVERSIDE AND CRAZY, directed by Austin Pendleton and starring Victor Almanzar, Elizabeth Canavan, Rosal Colon, Liza Colon-Zayas, Tony Award nominee Stephen McKinley Henderson,Michael Rispoli, and Ray Anthony Thomas.
