Tickets are on sale now for the brand new production of THE SOUND OF MUSIC, directed by three-time Tony Award® winner Jack O'Brien. This lavish new production will make its Orange County premiere July 19 - 31, 2016 at Segerstrom Center for the Arts as part of a North American tour. Tickets for THE SOUND OF MUSIC start at $29 and may be purchased online at SCFTA.org, the Box Office at 600 Town Center Drive in Costa Mesa or by calling (714) 556-2787. For inquiries about group tickets for 10 or more, call the Group Services office at (714) 755-0236. Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo and Sergio Assad to Perform at New York Guitar Seminar, 7/10

The celebrated Newman & Oltman Guitar Duo will perform at the 16th New York Guitar Seminar at Mannes on Sunday, July 10. Brazilian composer and guitarist Sergio Assad and his daughter, pianist and vocalist Clarice Assad will join the Duo in works by the Assads, Milton Nascimento, Antonio Carlos Jobim, Celso Machado, Alfonso Montes & Irina Kircher, Carlos Lyra, and Gilberto Gil. The concert will be held at 7:30pm at Tishman Auditorium at University Center, 63 Fifth Ave., corner of 13th St.  Michael Newman and Laura Oltman are the founders and artistic directors of the seminar (www.mannesguitar.com) which takes place July 6 - July 11, 2016.  Concert tickets are $25.00; $15.00 for students/seniors. Penobscot Theatre Company to Offer Adult Summer Improv Camp in July

Penobscot Theatre Company is offering a week-long improv intensive, July 18-22, from 6:00 to 8:00 pm, led by Dennis Price, founder and director of Capital City Improv. Amy Roeder, the theatre's director of education and an experienced improvisational performer and trainer, said the course was developed in response to growing interest in a craft that 'trains the brain' to engage and adapt. It is open to adults and teens aged 15+, and novices are welcome to register along with veteran performers. All classes will be at the Bangor Opera House, 131 Main Street, Bangor. The cost is $125. Award-winning music producer, critic and translator Lawrence Schulman will give a talk on Judy Garland, entitled 'Moments of Magic,' at the Northeast Harbor Library (Maine) on Wednesday, June 29, 2016 at 5 P.M. Admission is free. The one-and-a-quarter hour talk will examine Judy Garland's life and career, and feature nine audio-video clips, to be followed by a question and answer. Schulman will endeavor to answer the question: 'If I had just one hour to convince you of Judy Garland's place in classic American popular music, what film and television performances would I choose?' The talk will be followed by a mini-concert of songs Garland sang by famed jazz vocalist Diane Linscott and the equally renowned pianist Scott Cleveland. (more...)
