What if the lucky country's luck ran out? Australia has not in the past fifteen years that terrorism has been a key issue all around the globe experienced an act of terror on home soil. We have lost many in overseas massacres, but Australia has been a haven from bombs, shootings and kidnappings during the modern wave of terrorism, which makes it only a matter of time essentially before the events of A Nest of Skunks are likely to unfold. Adapted from Roger Vickery's short story about two Australians who have escaped a detention centre, thrust upon the mercy of a covert network of safe houses, it has translated very strongly on stage with the subtle nuance of Travis Green's direction. America Opera Projects to Present COMPOSERS & THE VOICE: SIX SCENES, 9/30

This fall, contemporary opera producer AMERICAN OPERA PROJECTS (AOP) will present COMPOSERS & THE VOICE: SIX SCENES 2016, a concert of opera scenes from ten artists emerging in the world of contemporary opera. Audiences will get a first look at six wildly different new works that range from imagining moments in the lives of famous people such as Sigmund Freud and Mabel Dodge Luhan or events taking place in a spaceship, an Asylum, and a uterus. The composers Matthew Barnson, Carlos R. Carrillo, Nell Shaw Cohen, Marc LeMay, Cecilia Livingston, and Sky Macklay and librettists Edward Einhorn, Duncan McFarlane, Emily Roller, and Mark Sonnenblick, were chosen by AOP to spend a year creating new works in its bi-annual fellowship program Composers & the Voice (C&V). Casting has been announced for first major revival of Caryl Churchill's BLUE HEART, nearly 20 years after its Royal Court premiere, co-produced by Tobacco Factory Theatres and the Orange Tree Theatre. Blue Heart brings them together to work again with key creatives David Mercatali and Angela Davies, who have worked on previous projects with both organisations. L.A. Performance Artist Rachel Mason to Release Single Tigers in the Dark'

Renowned performance artist and musician Rachel Mason, freshly signed to Los Angeles-based Cleopatra Records, has announced her forthcoming single 'Tigers in the Dark', along with an accompanying video, directed by Matthew Spiegelman and choreographed by Haylee Nichele. Boston Children's Museum announced that major sponsors have signed on for the first Boston Mini Maker Faire event on Saturday July 23, 2016. Sponsors include Google, CBS4 Boston, National Grid, Velcro Companies, Autodesk, Vertex, MAKE Magazine. A diverse group of 'Makers' will inspire and inform visitors with exhibits incorporating robots, LEGO, science, boat building, Japanese wood working, art, design and more. BWW Review: SWEENEY TODD at Shaw Festival

From it's ominous sounding opening organ chords, Stephen Sondheim makes it clear that you are in for a macabre evening of theatre as his masterpiece SWEENEY TODD begins. What sounds almost too gruesome to be appropriate for a musical has over the years had audiences and critics alike arguing whether this is a musical comedy or opera. Since it's 1979 premiere it has been staged world wide by some of the most notable Opera companies in the world, from English National Opera to the Paris Opera and Lyric Opera of Chicago. An updated staging is happening this summer at the Glimmerglass Festival in Cooperstown, New York with noted Wagnerian bass Greer Grimsley playing the title character. (more...)
