Based on the screenplay be Steve Gordon

King Arthur, the famous semi-opera in five acts by Henry Purcell, brings together theatre, dance and opera to give pride of place to love and the motherland. The original libretto by the English poet, John Dryden, tells of the quest of Arthur, king of the Britons, to rescue his fiancée, the princess Emmeline, abducted by his sworn enemy, Oswald, king of the Saxons. Our great Belgian novelist and poet, Peter Verhelst, has brought this passionate warrior’s legend up-to-date and re-written the spoken parts, injecting the plot with the originality of his own colourful imagination. Moreover, this production will be part of the commemoration to mark the centenary of the start of the First World War. There can be no doubt that this modern rewriting, carried by the musical energy of the Ghent orchestra, B’Rock, will revive the political impact and theatrical strength of Purcell’s masterpiece.

BWW Review: ArtsWest's DEATH OF A SALESMAN Filled with Pathos but Lacks ConnectionBWW Review: ArtsWest's DEATH OF A SALESMAN Filled with Pathos but Lacks Connection
by Jay Irwin - May 3, 2016

One of the major problems with the Loman family in Arthur Miller's masterpiece "Death of a Salesman", currently closing out the season at ArtsWest, is that the family doesn't communicate with each other. They bluster and puff up about things that may or may not have happened but they never really talk to each other about what's important. And while that lack of communication may serve the story well it does not serve the performance as the same could be said for the production at ArtsWest itself. During it's over 3 hour runtime there were a lot of emotion and stirring speeches being made but for the most part the actors were not connecting with each other and if they aren't connecting with each other then the audience cannot connect with them. Zimmerli Art Museum to Display Woodcut Prints from Helen Hyde, Bertha LumZimmerli Art Museum to Display Woodcut Prints from Helen Hyde, Bertha Lum
by BWW News Desk - May 2, 2016

New Brunswick, NJ – The historic re-establishment of trade between Japan and Western nations in 1853 also greatly influenced art and culture throughout the second half of the 19th century. Exhibitions at museums and world's fairs introduced Asian artists and traditions in North America and Europe, where artists enthusiastically embraced subjects, compositions, and materials they rarely – if ever – had seen before. The Zimmerli Art Museum's new exhibition “Infinite Opportunities Offered in Color”:  Prints by Helen Hyde and Bertha Lum, on view through July 31, features 35 works by two American artists who, in turn, disseminated these artistic developments to audiences back home. Both artists spent considerable time living abroad in Asia and recognized the unique artistic possibilities for representing traditional aspects of life in an area of the world that was rapidly modernizing. They mastered complex color printing techniques and depicted aspects of Japanese and Chinese culture that essentially had been absent in the West. Because these artists generally are presented in survey exhibitions, this is a rare opportunity to view a significant group of works by either artist.“Infinite Opportunities Offered in Color” also complements other works on view from the Zimmerli's permanent collection, including examples of the Japonisme movement and a gallery that commemorates Rutgers' historic relationship with Japan.   (more...)
