BWW sat down to talk with Wright about how the project evolved over the last decade, the immersive nature of the show, and the challenges of tackling such an iconic and well known literary figure. Set in 1928, the show will feature Woolf delivering her iconic text for the very first time while guests are treated to a reception that includes live music, cash bar and light refreshments. BWW EXCLUSIVE: Anjelica Huston On SMASH, Singing 'September Song' & More
by Pat Cerasaro - Mar 29, 2012

Today we are continuing BroadwayWorld's extensive coverage of NBC's musical dramedy series SMASH by talking to an Oscar-winning actress known for her genre-spanning performances in CRIMES & MISDEMEANORS, THE WITCHES, THE ADDAMS FAMILY, PRIZZI'S HONOR and THE GRIFTERS - among many other notable performances - the simply divine Anjelica Huston. Sharing stories about her famous family - father, director and actor John Huston; grandfather, stage and screen actor Walter Huston - Huston opens up about her experiences preparing for the tailor-made role of Eileen Rand on SMASH and drops some hints about the future for her character, in business and romance, as well as what we can expect her to sing in a future episode - the classic Kurt Weill/Maxwell Anderson gem originally written for her grandfather in KNICKERBOCKER HOLIDAY, "September Song". Additionally, Huston recalls previously musically collaborating onscreen with stupendous SMASH songwriter Marc Shaiman on THE ADDAMS FAMILY (remember The Mamoushka?) and reflects on her unforgettable role in the Stephen Frears modern classic THE GRIFTERS. Plus, Huston's memories of performing Shakespeare on Broadway, her reaction to Stephen Sondheim's insights on her father in his recent book, and much, much more! (more...)

BWW Reviews: Top Notch Cast Delivers Sparkling PYGMALION
by Frank Benge - Jun 30, 2014

Doing Shaw isn't for the timid, especially for modern audiences which have become expectant of a happy ending. There's a reason why "Pygmalion" remains Shaw's most popular play which has been turned into a movie, a stage musical, and a film musical. It's a classic Cinderella story, complete with slippers… in this case, though; they're thrown rather than worn. There's even a ball - well, a couple of parties, actually. The problem is…there's no Prince Charming. This fairy tale has no happy ending. (more...)

Review - reasons to be pretty & Len, Asleep In Vinyl
by Michael Dale - Jun 3, 2008

There's a moment in Show Boat where a woman sings that her true love, 'just plain Bill,' is 'an ordinary man' who 'isn't half as handsome as dozens of men' and is, on the whole, kinda stupid.  This is considered by many to be one of the most romantic love songs of the 20th Century.  In Neil LaBute's new reasons to be pretty the main character, reacting to his buddy's ravings about how hot another woman is, says that his girlfriend of four years may be 'regular' looking, but he wouldn't trade her for a million bucks. This will not be considered one of the most romantic sentiments of the 21st Century. (more...)

BWW Blog: Touring MARY POPPINS' Nicolas Dromard - Day #4
by Guest Blogger: Nicolas Dromard - Aug 31, 2012

Thursday. Usually a day of only one show. A day where a paycheck is magically delivered to your bank account by direct deposit or by check to your hands by a company manager... Well today was no ordinary Thursday! First of all, because it is our last week in Los Angeles, the crew will be loading out the show right after the matinee on Sunday to get it to the east coast so they changed the schedule around to have a matinee and an evening performance today. Tonight's audience was off the HOOK! They were hooting and hollering and clapping and screaming and making us feel like rockstars. I'm sorry to say that a good audience gets a better performance out of people on stage. Not that much better, but still, if we have a crowd that is incredible, the actors will be electrified and have more energy. That's just the truth. (more...)
