When young, American Alice follows a mime into an elevator, she finds herself in a strange new world. Loosely inspired by Chagall's Paris Through The Window, Alice encounters two little runts with very sticky fingers and a very naughty Queen. She runs her first Caucus Race and meets a deck of characters that seem familiar and new at the same time.

After a successful run at The SoHo Playhouse in June of 2011, Alice... (formerly Alice Au Pays Des Merveilles) was selected as an open-ended children's theater project for the playhouse. Playing every Saturday at 1pm, children and adults will be enthralled with Alice's curiouser and curiouser adventure.

Stretching the limit of our imaginations and creating an entirely new Wonderland, the production features a cast of ten actors doubling as the many characters of Lewis Carroll's classic story.

by BWW News Desk - Nov 29, 2016

BWW Review: ALICE'S ADVENTURES UNDER GROUND, Barbican, 28 November 2016
by Alexandra Coghlan - Nov 29, 2016

It couldn't have been better timed. When Gerald Barry started work on his latest project - an operatic take on Alice's Adventures in Wonderland - the world was still rotating smoothly on its axis, business as usual. But fast-forward a year to the European premiere and we find ourselves in a topsy-turvy alternative reality, with a celebrity president, a UK soon to be out of Europe, and madness everywhere we turn. Suddenly a trip down a rabbit-hole seems less a fantasy than a mirror for absurdities rather closer to home. But if the absurdity feels familiar, the mood is quite the reverse, because Barry's opera is utterly, bewitchingly joyful - 50 minutes of batter-you-round-the-head-with-a-bunch-of-flowers brilliance.
