When young, American Alice follows a mime into an elevator, she finds herself in a strange new world. Loosely inspired by Chagall's Paris Through The Window, Alice encounters two little runts with very sticky fingers and a very naughty Queen. She runs her first Caucus Race and meets a deck of characters that seem familiar and new at the same time.

After a successful run at The SoHo Playhouse in June of 2011, Alice... (formerly Alice Au Pays Des Merveilles) was selected as an open-ended children's theater project for the playhouse. Playing every Saturday at 1pm, children and adults will be enthralled with Alice's curiouser and curiouser adventure.

Stretching the limit of our imaginations and creating an entirely new Wonderland, the production features a cast of ten actors doubling as the many characters of Lewis Carroll's classic story.

James T. Hughes Releases JASPER SONG
by BWW News Desk - Feb 22, 2017

Dog Ear Publishing's new novel from author James T. Hughes tells the story of Alice and Tucker, the young stewards of Jasper Spring. Tucker's family has lived on the ranch for generations, and the two look forward to filling the homestead with children of their own. After two miscarriages, their hope of a family is fading quickly and they feel farther apart than ever before. The only living thing that either one of them feels truly connected with is their border collie, Tommie, a dog who senses their needs. Enter Ray - an ill-dressed 11-year-old boy sorely neglected by his single mother. Ray stumbles across the gorgeous and isolated valley while out on an aimless spin with his dilapidated bicycle. When Tommie finds Ray, the boy is transfixed by the beautiful dog, and the dog's natural instinct to herd spurs him to drive the boy into Tucker and Alice's empty arms. The couple develops affection for the forsaken boy, and he feels truly at home for the first time in his young life. As their relationship deepens, the trio fights to preserve the land they love. Can they stay together and keep Jasper Spring safe from outside forces? 'Jasper Spring' is a heartwarming tale of a couple that experiences trials that would test any marriage, and the boy who brings them back together again. Hughes renders Alice and Tucker's characters in a nuanced and sympathetic manner, with their plight moving the most hard-hearted reader. This is the first novel for Hughes, a Colorado native who moved to a homestead in the Black Hills of South Dakota with his wife and son. His love for training border collies inspired his description of Tommie, Tucker and Alice's beloved border collie. BWW Review: Stunning ZOOT SUIT Revival at Taper Mirrors Present Day Politics
by Don Grigware - Feb 20, 2017

Let's get one thing perfectly clear from the get.go. Luis Valdez's Zoot Suit which premiered at the Mark Taper Forum and on Broadway in 1978, is a milestone. Broadway had not seen anything quite like it up to that point. First of all, it put Mexicans into the mainstream ... and their Pachuco culture, including their music and dance. In form it's a serious play about the Zoot Suit murders of 1942 in Southern California, but it is laced with humor, song and dance, classifying it in both realms of fact and fantasy. Now, after 39 years, in the 50th anniversary year of Center Theatre Group, Zoot Suit returns in an all new revival, once again directed by the brilliant Valdez. It has a fantastic cast, is high on entertainment value...and its issues do indeed mirror those present in today's politically ruthless world. (more...)

BWW Review: LIANA AND BEN - A Stunning Technical Marvel
by Gil Kaan - Feb 20, 2017

Circle X Theatre Co.'s world premiere of playwright Susan Rubin's LIANA AND BEN presents one of the best technical productions I've seen in small LA theatres. Walking into the Atwater Village Theatre, more than a number of entering audience members do a double take at the optical illusion right in front of their faces. The lighting design of Dan Weingarten combined with the very basic, very clever set of set designer Alan E. Muraoka lead one to believe they're looking... (more...)
