BWW Recap: GRACEPOINT is Full of Accusations and RevelationsBWW Recap: GRACEPOINT is Full of Accusations and Revelations
by Courtney Henley - Oct 31, 2014

You wanted new suspects, you got new suspects. That seems to be the working motto for GRACEPOINT, since so far, we've been presented with a new “person of interest” every week. That's not necessarily a bad thing, though; it's keeping things fresh, and, more importantly, it's keeping us interested. They're even managing to hold my interest, as a BROADCHURCH viewer, since many characters, despite being revived for this new American version, are portrayed very differently than they were on the UK edition (I'm looking at you, Paul Coates!). We're already half way through the season – Wait, what? When did we hit the half way mark? Didn't the show just premiere last week? That went by quickly… Anyway, we're already half way through the season, and we're getting closer to solving this darn murder, slowly but surely. Five episodes in, the show is finally finding its groove – and I'm finally starting to adjust to hearing David Tennant with an American accent! (more...)

Returning to the list, and rounding out the top three, is Godspell, which has seen its popularity rise after a recent Broadway revival and subsequent national tour. (more...)

Starting with the imaginative small space staging by director Cate Caplin, musical direction by Jeff Bonhiver, and choreography by Samantha Whidby who also stage manages the production, each of the actors lovingly brings all our favorite Peanuts comic strip characters to life. Set to music in a series of vignettes, "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown" chronicles an average day in the life of Charlie Brown (Holland Noel) and his friends Linus (Richie Ferris), Lucy (Dorothy Dillingham Blue), Schroeder (John Devereaux), along with his sister Sally (Kristin Towers-Rowles), and of course his loyal dog Snoopy (Matt Steele). This little show is packed with heart and humor, expressed in the pure and honest simple truths of children, performed by a fun-loving and super energetic cast. (more...)

BWW Reviews: Kitchen Dog Theater's Must See Production of THE ARSONISTS is Riotous Fun Yet PropheticBWW Reviews: Kitchen Dog Theater's Must See Production of THE ARSONISTS is Riotous Fun Yet Prophetic
by Buster Spiller - Nov 16, 2014

Based on the number of U.S. residents who participated in the recent midterm elections, the lowest turnout since 1942, Kitchen Dog Theater's recent production of "The Arsonists", written by Max Frisch in 1953 is a stark reminder the old adage "art imitating life" can easily be rephrased to say "art IS life." And the parallels between this play and the inertia of the American voting public, which seems to get worst, is a somber cue that if citizens don't take serious the business of their daily lives, individuals with misplaced and misguided intentions are more than willing to cajole them and turn their lives upside down. Now to be certain, this story pulls you in IMMEDIATELY and you will laugh at what you see because it seems very 'familiar', and actually, it IS familiar. It is us. It is our story. We live it every day. As Americans, we love baseball, apple pie, cooing babies, and happy endings. You know, the perfect Norman Rockwell picture ending. We are nostalgic to a fault and want everything to blissfully continue without too much changing. In fact, we detest change despite our words to the contrary. (more...)
