Following an acclaimed run earlier this summer and in anticipation of its upcoming move Off-Broadway, brooklynONE productions (bkONE) will present additional performances of its new production of Godspell beginning September 7, 2018.

Godspell needs little introduction, but when it was first produced on Broadway in 1971, it was groundbreaking in it's stage treatment of the historical storytelling of the life of Jesus Christ. Based on the Gospel according to St. Matthew, it deals with the last days of Jesus and includes dramatized versions of several well-known parables - and yet, it is something more - a religious experience, a demonstration of joy, and a celebration of humanity. The musical features the well-known songs Bless the Lord, Day by Day, and By My Side.

brooklynONE productions (bkONE) is currently in production of a revival of 1971's Godspell.

Turner Classic Movies (TCM) will pay homage to the glittering world of Hollywood musicals with Mad About Musicals!, a special month of programming celebrating timeless movie musicals such as The Wizard of Oz, Singin' in the Rain and Cabaret. TCM is once again partnering with Ball State University and Canvas to offer a free online multimedia course tied to this programming special about the history of the musical genre and its evolution with cultural and technological shifts. Enrollment is open until June 17 and fans can sign up for the course at musicals.tcm.com.

The pace throughout is fast and the energy high, with enthusiastic performances.

5-STAR THEATRICALS (formerly Cabrillo Music Theatre) continues its 2017-2018 season with the Thousand Oaks premiere of THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME, with music by Alan Menken, lyrics by Stephen Schwartz, book by Peter Parnell (based on the Victor Hugo Novel and songs from the Disney film), musical direction by Dan Redfeld, choreography by Michelle Elkin and directed by Misti B. Wills. THE HUNCHBACK OF NOTRE DAME opens on Friday, April 20, 2017 and runs through Sunday, April 29, 2018 at the 1,800-seat Kavli Theatre at the Thousand Oaks Civic Arts Plaza, 2100 Thousand Oaks Boulevard in Thousand Oaks.  

Lipscomb University Theatre has only just announced its 2018-19 season and Beki Baker, chair of the Lipscomb University theatre department, says student response already has shown “an overwhelming amount of excitement.”

Godspell by John-Michael Tebelak and Stephen Schwartz. and was played for the first time in 1971. It's from the same era as Hair and Jesus Christ Superstar, and to some extend it is mix of both of them.

Godspell is one of those shows that is reinvented with each production. There is a timelessness about it that makes it just as applicable today as it did when the first production opened off-Broadway in 1971. NextStop Theatre Company's current production, Godspell is more grounded in our obsession with electronics and social media, then with the overall notion of becoming a community.

Portland's Cast Aside Productions has mounted a staging that re-imagines the 1971 Stephen Schwartz musical, based on the Gospel of Matthew, Godspell, setting the entire piece as a rock concert. The production is exuberant, animated, peopled with excellent musicians and a fine cast, but also beset by concept and technical difficulties.

Gettysburg Community Theatre (GCT) the not-for-profit 501c3 community theatre located at 49 York Street in historic downtown Gettysburg, will present the international hit musical GODSPELL 8pm Fridays and Saturdays and 2pm Sundays March 2-18, 2018. GCT's Founding Executive/Artistic Director Chad-Alan Carr is directing and choreographing and this production marks the 7th time he has done Godspell in his career and the second time at GCT. This being the 10th year of GCT, Carr has selected productions from GCT's history to revive. The last time Godspell was produced at GCT was 2012 right after a successful broadway revival had premiered in NYC. One member of GCT's original 2012 cast, Kevin Foster, is again in this 2018 revival production at GCT.

Beginning February 23rd, Cast Aside Productions is bringing its version of the 1971 Stephen Schwartz (WICKED, THE PRINCE OF EGYPT) musical based on the Gospel according to Matthew to a week-long residency at The Studio Theater at Portland Ballet.
