Composer and percussionist Adam Rudolph finds a similar shape of things via sound, enlisting the Go: Organic Orchestra, an ensemble of players who can be assembled anywhere, anytime. In the project's latest iteration, Rudolph has gathered his longest collaborating group of musicians based in New York, for a series of elegant, diversely textured pieces that form aSonic Mandala (Meta Records; release: September 17, 2013). Following a compositional and conducting approach Rudolph has honed over decades of contemplation, performance, and creation, the group delineates a space where contemporary classical, jazz, and global traditions effortlessly converge. Steep Theatre Company's 13th Season will begin in grand fashion tonight, October 3rd with the North American Premiere of Motortown by Olivier Award-winning playwright Simon Stephens. The production will be directed by Steep Artistic Associate and two-time Jeff Nominated director Robin Witt. The Stephens-Witt playwright- director tandem has proven a winner in the past at Steep, resulting in two of the more memorable shows in recent Chicago theater history: Harper Regan and Pornography. Motortown will be the first Simon Stephens production in Chicago since he received the 2013 Olivier Award for Best New Play for The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night. The production is also Ms. Witt's first Steep offering since her 2012 hit production of Dennis Kelly's Love and Money. (more...)

This fall the Frist Center for the Visual Arts will offer a variety of exciting public programming in conjunction with the exhibition 30 Americans. Highlights include Artist's Perspective lectures by Hank Willis Thomas and Nina Chanel Abney, two of the artists featured in 30 Americans. Also, in partnership with Vanderbilt University's Office of Community, Neighborhood, and Government Relations, the Frist Center will host a special three-part lunch and lecture series presented by Vanderbilt professors and guest panelists. Titled 'Food for Thought: Visualizing America through Art by African American Artists and Norman Rockwell,' the series will explore issues such as the U.S. civil rights movement and how historical events have shaped visual as well as social culture. In response to the devastating floods and mudslides in Acapulco, Mexico that killed at least 55 people and caused thousands to be stranded and homeless, including 210 colleagues from Fairmont properties, Fairmont Chicago, Millennium Park initiated a major fundraising effort among colleagues and business partners. Led by Mark Huntley, Regional Vice President and General Manager, Fairmont Chicago employees, from housekeepers to directors, raised $4,000 last week in donations, which was matched by the hotel owners. Fairmont Corporate also contributed $15,000. The donations have been wired to the Fairmont Acapulco hotels to help staff from the Fairmont Acapulco Princess, the Fairmont Pierre Marques and Fairmont Heritage Place - Acapulco Diamante, who have lost everything they own including their homes, personal belongings and even some friends and family.
