The Way Off Broadway Dinner Theatre launched its Children Theatre in 1996. Since then, no show has ever been as popular as the smash hit Pinkalicious - The Musical. When the fun, family friendly first appeared on the Children's Theatre stage, it was to open the 2012 Season. The production quickly sold out. When the run was briefly expanded, those performances also sold out. Beginning tonight, September 14, Pinkalicious will return to the Children's Theatre at Way Off Broadway, back by overwhelming demand! (more...)

This fall, Music Box Theatre's monthly Second Saturday Silent Cinema series screens a trio of excellent matinees. John Ford's remarkable first picture Straight Shooting - a Western, naturally - bows today, September 14, followed by Buster Keaton's must-see masterpiece The General on October 12 and the stop-motion sci-fi classic The Lost World on November 9. Named by Chicago magazine as the Best New Film Series of 2011 and hailed by the Chicago Reader's J.R. Jones as one of the best movie matinee series in the city, the Silent Cinema Series is presented the second Saturday of each month at noon. All films are shown authentically in 35mm at proper silent film speed and aspect ratio with live accompaniment by Dennis Scott at the Music Box theatre organ. (more...)

Nominated in 2008 for 13 Tony Awards, taking home four including Best Musical, Best Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestration, In the Heights is an exuberant contemporary musical that follows three days in the lives of residents living in New York's largely Hispanic Washington Heights neighborhood. Aurora's Paramount Theatre launched its third Broadway subscription series today with the first local professional staging of In the Heights, one of Broadway's most acclaimed contemporary musicals, a potent reminder of the importance of chasing one's dreams, and the show all of Chicago will be talking about this fall. Theatreworks is presenting Seven Guitars in conjunction with next month's Death of a Salesman as part of a miniseries entitled 'America's Backyards.' Both productions are set in 1948 outside ordinary homes and revolve around ordinary lives. The synchronicity invites further comparisons between August Wilson's portrait of black blues musicians and Arthur Miller's masterwork. Both plays share a theme of hope against desperate odds, of reaching for the better life that The American Dream claims everyone is entitled to. Both plays feature a man who pursues that dream in defiance of everything against him, and both end in tragedy. (more...)

The Chicago Sinfonietta opens its 2013-14 season with "eMotion," a concert continuing Music DirectorMei-Ann Chen's award-winning experimental programming style, moving toward the creation of a new breed of collaborative performance experiences. The "eMotion" concert features music inspired by dance, including a World Premiere arrangement commissioned by the Sinfonietta. The Sinfonietta performs "eMotion" twice, once in its downtown Chicago home venue of Symphony Center, 220 S.
