New York City Ballet announced today that the Company is planning to create several new works and special programs, many of which will be specially filmed onstage at the Koch Theater, for online release from February through May 2021.  

The Shubert Organization has announced the passing of its beloved Chairman Emeritus, Philip J. Smith. Mr. Smith passed away peacefully on January 15, 2021, in New York City at the age of 89. The cause of death was complications from Covid-19, confirmed by his daughters, Linda Phillips and Jennifer Stein.

Philip J. Smith, Chairman and Co-CEO of The Shubert Organization, has announced his retirement, effective June 30th, 2020. The Shubert Organization owns and operates 17 Broadway theatres and six Off-Broadway venues. Mr. Smith will also resign his duties as Chairman of The Shubert Foundation.

Beth Morrison Projects (BMP) and Trinity Church Wall Street (Trinity), together with PROTOTYPE: Opera|Theatre|Now, are pleased to announce a multiyear partnership in which BMP and Trinity will commission and produce five cutting-edge new opera-theater works for premiere at the PROTOTYPE Festival over three seasons (2021a?"2023). It's easy to imagine that a play that explores the meaning of art could become bogged down in artistic pretention. However, Josh Logan's Red escapes this as the physicality of the art itself gives it action to bolster its theoretical talk. Alfred Molina reprises his role as the artist Mark Rothko and Alfred Enoch gives a wonderful performance as his assistant, Ken. Once again under Michael Grandage's direction, the show manages to build many humorous moments despite its serious subject matter.
